MEISINGER, BOYLE, REAVIS PICKED IN 2015 MLB DRAFT

RADFORD, Va. ---- Ryan Meisinger, Michael Boyle and Josh Reavis of the Radford baseball team were selected in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday by the Baltimore Orioles, LA Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays, respectively.  With three picks on day three, at least one Highlander has been picked in the draft in four consecutive years.

"I expect all of these guys to compete at the highest level and continue the successful track record of former Highlanders in professional baseball," said head coach Joe Raccuia.

Meisinger became the third player from Radford picked by the Orioles in as many years. He was drafted 343rd overall in the 11th round, making him the highest picked Highlander since Eddie Butler went 46th overall in 2012. Meisinger was a First-Team All-Big South selection and voted to the Big South All-Tournament Team. He finished the year tied for the national lead in saves and tied the Radford single-season record. Meisinger also holds Radford's career ERA record (2.60). The junior hurler is 12-1 on the mound for the Red and White.

"Meis(inger) was as dominant as a closer as I have ever seen or been around," Raccuia said. "He deserved this. Ryan was a middle reliever his freshman year and made himself into what he is now. He is one of the best competitors I have ever been around."

Boyle became the first player in Radford history to be drafted by the LA Dodgers. The lefty ace was a First-Team All-Big South selection and named to the Big South All-Tournament Team. Boyle set Radford records with 10 wins in his junior campaign and led the league in the category.

"Michael has been a guy who came in as a starter and improved each and every year," said Raccuia. "He was the epitome of a Friday night guy that gave us huge innings and wins almost every time out. His work ethic and composure on the bump was a separator."

The Blue Jays picked up Reavis in the 38th round with the 1,142nd pick. He was named to the NCAA Tournament All-Regional Team at catcher, as well as the Big South All-Tournament Team. Reavis was voted to the Big South's All-Academic squad, while batting .290 with 41 RBI in 56 games started behind the dish. He received the Radford Athletics Senior Leadership Award, which is the highest accolade given by the department to a student-athlete.

"Josh's story is an incredible one," Raccuia said. "From walk-on, to bullpen catcher, to three-year starter, to major league draft pick. He is an incredible leader and worker with a really special ability to catch and throw. I am proud of Josh for he embodies everything a Highlander stands for."

Nineteen Highlanders have been taken in the MLB's First Year Player Draft. Phil Leftwich was the first Radford player to ever be draft, being selected 64th overall in the second round by the Angels. This is the third time three players have been drafted from Radford in the same year and first time since 2012.

The 2015 MLB Draft concluded on Wednesday with rounds 11-40.
