DAEHLIE’S STRIKE THE DIFFERENCE IN 1-0 VICTORY OVER CHARLESTON

RADFORD, Va. – Freshman forward Sivert Daehlie found the back of the net in the 36th minute to provide the lone tally in Radford's 1-0 exhibition victory over Charleston (W.Va.) Friday afternoon at Cupp Stadium.

Classmate Jakob Strandsäter delivered a cross into the box where Sergio Arzubiaga redirected to Daehlie, who finished in the bottom-left corner of the goal.

"This was a strong exhibition match for us to again test all our players and see who can step up and fulfill roles against a quality opponent," head coach Marc Reeves pointed out. "We had good performances from many players, and I think our depth in most positions will be a big factor in us being able to sustain a high level of play when it counts. We are using this weekend to prepare for the quick turnaround on opening weekend. Our players must recover quickly to be ready for Sunday's game."

The Highlanders out-shot Charleston, 14-9, and earned a 4-1 advantage in corners. Three of Radford's five shots on frame were from freshman Austin Smythe.

RU concludes its exhibition slate Sunday against Roanoke College. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Cupp Stadium.
