RADFORD CLOSES EXHIBITION SLATE WITH 7-0 WIN OVER ROANOKE

RADFORD, Va. – Five different Highlanders found the back of the net as the Radford men's soccer team blanked Roanoke College, 7-0, in its final exhibition Sunday afternoon at Cupp Stadium.

Fraser Colmer and Jakob Strandsäter both notched two goals, while Sivert Daehlie, Taylor Martin and Michael Walsh delivered one apiece. In addition to scoring, Martin racked up a pair of assists for the match—both off corners.

"I am pleased with the professional performance of our entire group to turn around from Friday's game and start with a strong mentality," head coach Marc Reeves noted. "Once again, we got to use a lot of players and see our depth in most positions. We scored some good team goals and defended solidly the whole game.

"Roanoke has just begun their preseason, and I know Coach Pflugrad will get the most from what I believe is a good group of players. We wish them the very best and think this game will aid us with our preparations for what we know will be a very tough opening weekend."

The Highlanders out-shot Roanoke, 18-3, and earned a 6-0 advantage in corners. Nicolas Mertzokat, Koby Johnson and Cory Thompson split time in goal for Radford.

RU now turns its attention to Friday's season opener against Dayton. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Va., as part of the Fairfield Inn by Marriott JMU Invitational.
