VOLLEYBALL HEADS SOUTH FOR GEORGIA STATE INVITATIONAL



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford will travel to Atlanta, Ga., to play in the Georgia State Invitational this weekend.
  • RU will face DePaul, Georgia State and Grambling State for its third tournament of the season.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 3-3
  • Radford will aim to return to its winning ways after going 0-3 at the George Washington Invitational last weekend.
  • Megan Short earned all-tournament honors for her efforts in the nation's capital.
  • Maddie Palmer continues to lead Radford and the Big South in kills (111), kills per set (4.44), points (119.5) and points per set (4.78).
  • Haley Kleespies is the conference leader in assists (271) and assists per set (10.84).
  • Following the Highlanders' last tournament, Kelby Jackson moved up to seventh place in career digs (890).
 
SCOUTING DEPAUL
  • Record: 5-1
  • Series: DePaul leads, 2-1
  • After dropping their season opener to Drake, the Blue Demons have prevailed in their last five outings.
  • They only dropped two sets in three matches last weekend en route to claiming their home tournament title.
  • Caitlyn Coffey, who leads the BIG EAST and ranks second nationally in hitting percentage (.526), fired down 47 kills in DePaul's three wins at home.
  • The Blue Demons edged Radford, 3-2, in the two sides' last meeting in 2013.
 
SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
  • Record: 3-4
  • Series: Radford leads, 4-0
  • RU and Georgia State met last year in Appalachian State's Black and Gold Challenge where the Highlanders won in sweeping fashion (25-20, 26-24, 25-20).
  • The Panthers have won three of their last four matches. They captured High Point's home tournament last weekend after knocking off the hosts, 3-2, in the title tilt.
  • Kristina Stinson was named MVP of that tournament after totaling 55 kills, including a career-high 24 against High Point. She was later recognized as the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
SCOUTING GRAMBLING STATE
  • Record: 1-4
  • Series: first meeting
  • The Tigers' only win of the season came against Mississippi Valley on Sept. 2.
  • Grambling's four losses have all been in straight sets.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford plays its only mid-week match of the season Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Norfolk State. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
