MEN’S SOCCER HOSTS APPALACHIAN STATE, FRIDAY NIGHT



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford will look to bounce back from a road loss to nationally-ranked Georgetown when the Highlanders take the pitch Friday night against Appalachian State.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Cupp Stadium.
  • The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a Radford soccer scarf.
  • Kieran Roberts headed in his first career goal off a cross from Fraser Colmer to lift the Highlanders to a 1-0 overtime victory over App State last season.
  • Radford has won five in a row in the series, including twice in overtime.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 3-1-1
  • Five of Radford's nine goals scored this season are by underclassmen.
  • Two of those underclassmen, Sivert Daehlie and Finn Tiedemann, lead the Highlanders with four points apiece.
  • Their two goals are tied for second among Big South freshmen.
  • Radford is the conference leader in shots per game (15.4).
  • Evan Szklennik has taken a team-best 17 shots up top for RU, with nine of those being on frame.
 
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
  • Record: 3-2-0
  • Series: Radford leads, 10-7-1
  • RU will be the third Big South foe the Mountaineers have played this season. App State defeated High Point, 5-1, in an exhibition, before losing to Longwood, 2-0, at home in its last time out.
  • Prior to the Longwood loss, the Mountaineers had reeled off three wins in a row, including two in extra time.
  • Junior Stephen Chapman is App State's top offensive threat with six points (three goals) and 18 shots.
