RADFORD, MARSHALL TO SQUARE OFF IN MEN’S SOCCER



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford hosts non-conference foe Marshall, Tuesday at 6 p.m., before diving into Big South play later in the week.
  • RU and the Thundering Herd battled to a 2-2 draw in an exhibition last season.
  • The two sides' last regular-season meeting was in 2012 when the Highlanders dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to Marshall. Current Thundering Herd senior, Jack Hopkins, scored the golden goal in that match.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 4-1-1
  • Six of Radford's 11 goals scored this season are by underclassmen.
  • Two of those underclassmen, Sivert Daehlie and Finn Tiedemann, lead the Highlanders with four points apiece.
  • Their two goals are tied for second among Big South freshmen.
  • Radford is the conference leader in shots per game (16.5).
  • Evan Szklennik has taken a team-best 20 shots up top for RU, with 10 of those being on frame.
  • Szklennik scored his first goal of the season in the Highlanders' 2-1 victory over Appalachian State.

  • Series: 4-4-2
  • RU will be the third Big South foe the Thundering Herd has played this season. Marshall defeated High Point, 1-0, in a home exhibition, before edging Liberty, 2-1, in double overtime on the road.
  • The Thundering Herd had won four matches in a row prior to dropping back-to-back 1-0 decisions to Evansville and Kentucky.
  • Rimario Gordon and Chris Taibi have scored twice for Marshall.
  • Four players are tied for the team lead in points with four.

  • Radford travels to Clinton, S.C., for Saturday's Big South opener at Presbyterian.
