HIGHLANDERS SET TO HOST RIVAL LIBERTY FOR BIG SOUTH OPENER

Live Stats | Live Video

RADFORD, Va. – After finishing off the non-conference portion of its schedule on a high note, the Radford women's soccer team opens Big South play with a showdown against in-state rival Liberty Wednesday night at Cupp Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Free sunglasses will be given out to fans while supplies last.

The Highlanders (5-3) will be looking to carry momentum from last Friday's eight-goal output that featured three players with multi-goal performances, five with at least one assist and a Cupp Stadium-record tying 49 shot attempts.

With Amanda Philip notching a hat trick in the game and Ana Revollo adding a pair, freshmen have now combined for nine golas on the season. The duo share the team-lead in goals and points (6), with fellow freshman Jessica Wollmann and sophomore Jordan Lundin tied for second with four points apiece and three others contributing three.

Defensively, Radford is holding opponents to fewer than six shots on goal per game, while recording three shutouts. The Highlanders have surrendered just two goals over the last four contests.

Scouting Liberty: The defending regular-season champion Flames (2-5-1) finished a challenging non-conference slate with a 3-0 loss to George Washington last Thursday… Their other setbacks came to Cal-State Fullerton, UC Riverside, James Madison and Pittsburgh, with three of them being one-goal games… Both of Liberty's wins were 1-0 decisions, against Old Dominion and VCU, while the draw was with Tennessee… Two-time first-team all-conference selection Brittany Aanderud has scored two of the team's five goals, while 2014 Big South Defensive Player of the Year Holly Van Noord has recorded a conference-best 55 saves.

Series History: This will be the 30th all-time meeting between the rivals, with Radford holding a 15-10-4 advantage, including 8-2-1 at Cupp Stadium… Liberty has won the last three matches, including two in Big South Tournament play… The Flames won by 2-1 and 2-0 scores in Lynchburg last year.

RU in Big South Openers: The Highlanders are unbeaten in conference openers since 2007, with a 6-0-2 overall mark and a 4-0-2 record at home during that span.

Up Next: Radford finishes off its three-game homestand Saturday night as it welcomes Presbyterian for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Highlanders then play their next three matches on the road.
