RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team was on the short end of a quick three-goal stretch in the second half and fell to Presbyterian 2-1 on wet and windy Saturday night at Cupp Stadium.

All three of the goals were scored in a span of less than two minutes, with Presbyterian tallying their pair around junior Lexi Denny's first of the season. It was the Highlanders' (5-5, 0-2) third straight setback by one goal, with the last two coming in Big South Conference play.

Radford fell despite controlling the large majority of the possession, outshooting the Blue Hose 24-7 – including 11-4 on goal - and totaling 11 corner kicks to just one for PC. However, that one led to the first goal of the game as Rebecca McGrath took advantage of ball that bounced around in the six-yard box and put in the right side.

Denny's second career goal tied it less than a minute later. Redshirt junior Hannah Thomas sent a ball from near the top right corner of the 18 over toward the left post and Denny headed it in in the near side. She is the 12th different Highlander to score a goal this season.

However, the Blue Hose (5-5, 1-1) regained the lead with 13 minutes left after working the ball down to the Highlanders' defensive third and drawing a foul. Presbyterian's Sophie Cobb took the free kick from the left wing and found the net for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Radford had a chance to answer back with under five minutes left as Shannon Nasca got loose on a run into the box, but her shot went wide of the left post. The Highlanders had one last opportunity as they drew a free kick from near the endline on the right side, but were unable to generate a shot off of it.

"I thought we played well between the 18s and possessed it, but inside the 18s on both sides we have to have better quality," Radford head coach Ben Sohrabi said. "We've got to finish our opportunities and we've got to be smarter inside our own box."

Amanda Philip and Asyia Mitchell each had a game-high five shots for Radford. Katie McCormick recorded two saves, with one coming on a diving stop following an RU turnover n the first half.

The Highlanders now head out on the road for their next three matches, beginning with a mid-week afternoon game at Charleston Southern on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
