RADFORD SEEKS REVENGE IN BIG SOUTH QUARTERFINAL SATURDAY

Live Video

RADFORD, Va. – After a one-year absence, Radford is ready to return to familiar territory as they play in the Big South Women's Soccer Tournament, beginning with a quarterfinal match at third-seeded Campbell Saturday evening. Kickoff in Buies Creek, N.C. is set for 6 p.m. with the contest airing on the Big South Network.

The sixth-seeded Highlanders will be looking avenge a tough 3-2 defeat at home to the Fighting Camels in the regular-season meeting on Oct. 12. Radford fought back from a two-goal deficit and tied the match in the 90th minute, but Campbell won it in the first minute of overtime. In fact, the last two meetings have been 3-2 overtime decisions won by the Camels and the last three have gone past regulation, with a 2-2 draw in 2014.

The match earlier this month was a tale of two halves as Campbell had a 12-2 shots lead in the opening 45 minutes, before Radford turned it around for an 11-4 advantage after the break. The teams combined for 17 corner kicks and each scored on a penalty kick.

Offensively, the Highlanders finished regular-season conference play tied for third in assists, fourth in goals and points and sixth in shots per game. Defensively, Radford ranked fourth in goals allowed and sixth in saves. Individually, Jasmine Casarez led the way with 16 points on seven goals and two assists, while Jessica Wollmann had three goals and four assists. Jordan Lundin also had four helpers, while Nelia Perez and Abby Gardner contributed two goals apiece. Between the posts, Courtney Kaplan finished fourth in league play with a 1.12 GAA.

Campbell won four of its last five matches with the lone loss coming to Liberty. During conference play, the Fighting Camels were second in goals, assists and points and fourth in shots per game. Peyton Ormsby shared the league's overall points lead with 21 on seven goals and seven assists, including four each in conference play. On the defensive side, Campbell was eighth in goals allowed in Big South matches and ninth in saves.

The teams have had two previous conference tournament matchups, with Radford winning both 1-0, the last in 2012. The winner advances to the semifinals on Nov. 4 in Greensboro and will face either Liberty or UNC Asheville.
