HIGHLANDERS FACE TEST AT GARDNER-WEBB SATURDAY

Live Stats

RADFORD, Va. – After a pair of home wins, the first-place Radford women's soccer takes its unbeaten Big South record back on the road, traveling to Gardner-Webb for a Saturday afternoon match, beginning at 4 p.m.

The Highlanders (6-4, 4-0) remain one of two teams undefeated in conference play, just ahead of High Point (3-0). Charleston Southern (2-1) is the only other team with less than two league losses.

Gardner-Webb (5-7-2, 2-2), meanwhile, is coming off of a 1-0 home shutout of its own, over defending champion and preseason favorite Liberty Wednesday night.

Radford opened its Big South slate with back-to-back road wins and will be trying for three straight away from home for the first time since 2013, and to surpass its overall victory from all of last season.

The Highlanders have allowed just one goal in their last three matches, lowering their Big South-best goals against average to an even 1.00 for the season. Courtenay Kaplan shares the league lead with her four shutouts and ranks second in save percentage (.821). She has recorded 17 stops over the last three games and owns a 0.75 goals against average in the four league matches.

Offensively in conference play, Radford ranks first in assists and points and tied for first in goals. After tallying the lone goal in Wednesday night's shutout of Longwood, Jessica Wollmann is now second alone on the team with three goals and eight points. Jasmine Casarez notched the assist to give her a point in four consecutive matches and a conference-best 15 on the season. RU has notched assists on its last six goals.

Both of Gardner-Webb's conference wins – the other came against Presbyterian in overtime – were 1-0 decisions, while their two defeats (to Longwood and High Point) were 5-0 and 4-0 scores. While tallying just the two goals, the Runnin' Bulldogs rank tied for first with 18.25 shots per game in conference play. Senior Brandi Arey leads the way individually with 6.50 per contest and has 61 attempts overall on the season. She has produced four goals and two assists, although just one assist in conference play. Jessica Ferguson and Samuelle Grove have each added three goals and one assist on the year. Grove scored the game-winner against Presbyterian.

Defensively, GWU has allowed 24 goals in its 14 matches and is giving up 17.7 shots per game. However, it also has four shutouts, all recorded by Keely Brown, who has a league-high 81 saves.

Radford leads the all-time series 7-3-1 following a 2-1 home victory last year. Gardner-Webb posted a 2-0 shutout on its homefield in 2014.
