HIGHLANDERS, HOKIES SQUARE OFF IN BLACKSBURG WEDNESDAY



RADFORD, Va. – Add women's lacrosse as a sport played between New River Valley rivals Radford and Virginia Tech. The two programs will meet for the first time Wednesday in Blacksburg.

Originally scheduled as a home game for the Highlanders, RU will now clash with the Hokies inside their new indoor practice facility. Opening draw is set for 2 p.m.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
Radford (0-1) played its inaugural game Saturday at Saint Francis (Pa.), falling 23-8. Emma Rogers tallied five goals and one assist in the loss. Her five goals are tied for the most by a Big South player in a single game this season.
 
Juliette Ruland, Michaela Petersen and Avery Reding provided the remaining goals for the Highlanders. Ruland led RU in draw controls (four) and ground balls (three).
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
The Hokies (4-2) are coming off a 14-13 overtime victory over High Point, Sunday. Meghan Macera tallied the game-winner just over a minute into overtime. Tech trailed 11-6 with 25:55 left in regulation before netting eight of the next nine goals, including the last three, to prevail.
 
A trio of Hokies have double-digit goals on the season, led by Tristan McGinley's 12. Kristine Loscalzo and Jessi Thon have 11 and 10, respectively. Macera leads Tech in ground balls (22), draw controls (24) and caused turnovers (17).
 
Radford will be the Hokies' fourth and final Big South opponent on their 2016 schedule. In addition to High Point, Tech has wins over Gardner-Webb (18-1) and Liberty (7-4).
