MORROW EARNS BIG SOUTH PITCHER OF WEEK HONOR

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following a nearly flawless performance in three complete-game victories, Radford junior Abby Morrow has been named Big South Conference co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Morrow went 3-0 with a 0.33 ERA and two shutouts in her three starts last week, allowing just one run and nine hits over 21 innings. She had 12 strikeouts with just one walk, which ended a 42-inning streak without issuing a free pass. In her first two outings of the week, she recorded back-to-back two-hitters against Hampton and Presbyterian. In the three games, she held opponents to a .125 average.

The lone run scored against Morrow came in the fourth inning Sunday versus the Blue Hose and was the first earned run Morrow had allowed in more than 35 innings of work. In her last six appearances, the righthander from Ruther Glen, Va., has a 6-0 record and a miniscule 0.18 ERA, helping key the Highlanders' nine-game winning streak. In four of her last five starts during the span, she limited opponents to three hits or fewer.

For the season, Morrow is the conference's leader with 17 victories and six shutouts, while standing second with a 1.90 ERA, and closing in on Longwood's Elizabeth McCarthy, who is at 1.78. McCarthy, who shares this week's conference pitching honor, allowed five runs, including three earned, in three combined wins over Virginia Tech and Gardner-Webb last week.

The weekly honor is the second of Morrow's career. She also claimed the award after the third week last year, prior to suffering her season-ending injury.

Morrow and the rest of the Highlanders (29-15) are back in action on Wednesday night as they host a rematch with Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.
