MYRTLE ALL-CONFERENCE IN 400 HURDLES WITH THIRD-PLACE FINISH

Final Results

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior Cara Myrtle used a second straight personal-best time in the 400-meter hurdles to take third place and claim her first All-Big South honors on Thursday, highlighting Radford's final day of the conference championships.

Myrtle, who came into the meet ranked fifth in the event and qualified at that spot in the preliminary, lowered the top career time she had in that race by a full one second in the final. She crossed the line in 1:02.49, to beat out UNC Asheville's Kayli Nichols by .35 seconds and earn the spot on the podium. Myrtle became the first Highlander to earn all-conference honors in the 400 hurdles since 2005 and the second student-athlete in program history. Maurika Charles was a three-time honoree in the event.

Also Thursday, Naihla Rose-Delia placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 13.29 meters. She narrowly missed out on notching indoor-outdoor double all-conference in the event, finishing just .25 meters behind third-place Dasiana Larson of Liberty.

Meanwhile, Jessica Shelton continued her strong meet with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles final. She clocked 14.44 in the race, .02 seconds better than her preliminary time.

Along with participating in 10 individual competitions in the meet, including her program-record heptathlon performance, Shelton also ran both relays, helping the 4x400 quartet cap off the meet in style. She teamed with Danyelle McDaniel, Ckareekeea Branch and Myrtle to clock 3:53.30 - a season-best by more than six seconds - to place fifth.

Earlier in the day, the 4x100 relay team of Shelton, Shantel Jones, McDaniel and Branch took seventh place with a time of 49.31, just .03 seconds off a season-best time in that event.
