PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Conner Lewis opened the first day of the 2016 Golfweek Program Challenge Sunday afternoon with a one-under par 71, tied for 26th at the 6,982-yard True Blue Golf Club.
The Highlanders, who are just two strokes away from 10th place Boston College, finished their first 18 holes with a score of 292. Radford is tied with Western Carolina for 11th place as the Catamounts finished with a late charge to tie the Highlanders.
Lewis finished with two birdies on the front nine, tallying 15 pars in the opening round. Ben Ramsey followed with an even par performance of 72, leading the Highlanders with 16 pars on the day.
Ramsey stands in a tie for 35th place after leading the field in pars. Lewis is tied for second in pars.
In his first collegiate match, Kristof Ulenaers led the Highlanders with three birdies.
Radford paced the first day with a tournament leading 67 pars.
The Highlanders return to the links on Monday at 7:30 a.m., playing their round with Boston College.
