NORFOLK, Va. – A late second half goal by Old Dominion's Sebastian Hauret handed No. 18 Radford its first loss of the 2016 season in a battle between Commonwealth foes, Sunday afternoon.

The Hauret goal came in the 81^st minute on a long cross off the boot of Jimmy Filerman.

Radford came into the match winless in the all-time series against the Monarchs and the match proved to be a defensive battle early.

The first half saw the Highlanders manage eight shots with three on goal. Old Dominion followed suit with seven shots.

Sivert Daehlie and Garland Smith gave the Highlanders chances in the first half, but nothing found net.

After the Old Dominion goal, Neil Martorana and Finn Tiedemann put shot attempts on goal, but were unable to shake Alex Tiesenhausen, who finished with eight saves.

Radford was off to its best start since 1989 and was looking for its best start in program history in winning five in a row.
Old Dominion holds a 5-0-0 record in the all-time series between the two in-state foes.
Sivert Daehlie led RU with four shots, two on goal.
Finn Tiedemann contributed two shots on goal.
Radford finished with a 16-13 shot advantage.
The Highlanders also finished with eight shots on goal, compared to Old Dominion's five.
Nicolas Mertzokat earned his first career start, finishing with four saves.
Jo Vetle Rimstad and Neil Martorana were named to the 41st Annual ODU Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team.

"We created enough chances in the game, but again our defending was not at the level we expect and it cost us on their goal. We need to be tougher in all areas. I was not pleased with our team energy after giving up the late goal. We have worked hard to put our program in a strong position, but cannot afford to forgot the factors that influenced our progress. The Highlanders return to action on Saturday, hosting Elon in a rematch of last year's thrilling 2-0 victory.
The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start inside Cupp Stadium.
