WOMEN'S SOCCER LOOKS FOR 2ND STRAIGHT ROAD WIN WEDNESDAY

Live Stats

RADFORD, Va. – Coming off of its convincing victory in the Big South opener, the Radford women's soccer team looks for a second straight win on the road when it travels to UNC Asheville Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Highlanders (3-4, 1-0) put it all together offensively Saturday against Winthrop, matching their goal total from the first six games in building a 5-0 lead by the 66th minute of play. Five different players found the back of the net as RU had its highest-scoring output in a Big South game since October of 2014, while putting 12 of its 14 shot attempts on frame.

For the season, Jasmine Casarez leads the offense with three goals and six points, while Jessica Wollmann and Nelia Perez each have two goals and one assist for five points. The trio has combined with Jordan Lundin to record 26 of the team's 42 shots on goal. Lundin has a team-high three assists, while Hannah Duff now has two.

Defensively, Radford limited Winthrop to just three shots for the first 75 minutes of the match and remains the conference's leader in fewest goals allowed per game.

In its Big South opener Saturday, UNC Asheville (5-6, 0-1) dropped a 1-0 decision at Charleston Southern on a goal in the 63rd minute. UNCA has its top two goal scorers from last year back, in junior Caroline Houser and senior Paige Trent. Houser has two goals and five assists this season, while Trent is one of three Bulldogs with three goals, while adding two assists. As a team, Asheville has scored 17 goals in 11 matches despite being shut out four times, although eight of the goals came in wins over South Carolina State and Alabama A&M. Sophomore Keller Dixon has started seven matches in goal, recording 48 saves with a 1.95 goals against average.

Like Radford, UNCA owns a 2-0 non-conference shutout of USC Upstate. Radford leads the all-time series 20-8-3, but Asheville has taken one-goal wins the last two years. Houser's goal in the 75th minute broke a tie game in a 2-1 decision last year.
