WOMEN’S SOCCER HOSTS SUNDAY MATINEE VS. USC UPSTATE

Live Stats

RADFORD, Va. – Following a pair of one-goal defeats to start the season, the Radford women's soccer team will look to break through in the win column Sunday afternoon when it welcomes USC Upstate to Cupp Stadium for a 2 p.m. match.

USC Upstate (0-3-2) will also be aiming for its first victory, after dropping a 2-0 decision at home to Furman on Thursday. Like RU, the Spartans started the campaign with two one-goal losses – both 1-0 scores to East Tennessee State and Winthrop – before drawing with South Carolina State and Gardner-Webb.

Sunday's match figures to be another tight, low-scoring game, as the two teams have combined to tally only two goals in seven matches, but are also averaging just one goal per game given up.

The Highlanders have come on strong offensively after halftime in each of their two matches, particularly in their home opener when they outshot Appalachian State, but were unable to convert on the opportunities they created. Jasmine Casarez has been accurate with her attempts, putting four of five on frame, including her first-half goal last Sunday.

Sophomore midfielder Autumn Gore scored the one USC Upstate goal and leads the team with 11 shots. Junior Brooke Bailey has played all five games in goal and totaled 47 saves. The Spartans have been outshot 94-56 on the season.

Radford has won each of the three prior meetings, including a 2-1 victory on the road last year.
