BIG SOUTH UNBEATENS SQUARE OFF AT CUPP SATURDAY

RADFORD, Va. – After starting Big South play with back-to-back victories on the road, the Radford women's soccer team returns home Saturday afternoon to host conference co-leader Charleston Southern for a showdown at Cupp Stadium.

Prior to kickoff of the 1 p.m. match, Radford Athletics will retire the jersey of Hall of Famer Sue Williams. The Highlander women's soccer program will also be holding its Alumni Day festivities.

Radford and Charleston Southern come in as the only 2-0 teams in conference play, with High Point just behind at 1-0.

The Highlanders found the net seven times in the victories at Winthrop and UNC Asheville, while putting 22 of the 26 shot attempts on goal. Jasmine Casarez tallied three of the scores and is now tied for second in the Big South with five goals on 22 shots. Jessica Wollmann now has a pair of assists to go with two markers for six points, while Jordan Lundin is tied for third in the conference with her four helpers.

Defensively, Radford kept the opponent off the scoreboard for the first 80 minutes of each victory and has surrendered just one first-half goal over the last six games, including none in the last four. The Highlanders have a conference-best 1.25 GAA, while Courtenay Kaplan totaled 20 saves in the last three matches.

RU last's 3-0 start in conference was the 2013 campaign, when that squad won its first eight en route to the regular-season title.

Charleston Southern (6-4 overall) opened its Big South late with two home matches, defeating UNC Asheville 1-0 before posting a 3-1 victory over Campbell on Wednesday. The Buccaneers rank second in the conference in goals per game, led by senior forward Anna Sells, who is first individually with six goals and 13 points. Redshirt sophomore Jordan Newman has tallied five goals and one assist, and played a role in all three scores in the Campbell match. Junior Liz Amanda Brown and sophomore Alyssa Dellacqua have split time in goal, combining for 47 saves and five shutouts. Brown owns a 0.23 GAA and has been named conference Defensive Player of the Week twice.

CSU posted a 2-0 victory in Charleston last year, snapping RU's 16-match streak without a loss in the series. The Highlanders still hold a 17-7-5 all-time advantage.
