RADFORD TRAVELS TO VIRGINIA TUESDAY FOR COMMONWEALTH CLASH

SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford travels to No. 10 Virginia for a Commonwealth battle and the Highlanders' final non-conference match of the season.
  • A season ago, Radford battled then No. 21 Virginia to a 1-1 draw as Kieran Roberts' penalty kick in the 82nd minute gave the Highlanders a 1-0 lead. The Cavaliers would knot the match up as Pablo Aguilar scored four minutes later.
  • The draw with the first in the all-time series as Virginia holds a 11-0-1 edge.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 7-4-2 (3-1-1 Big South)
  • Radford jumped back into the win column as the Highlanders defeated Gardner-Webb on Saturday in a 5-3 Senior Day victory. The win snapped Radford's three-match winless streak.
  • In the match, Kieran Roberts collected his second hat trick on the season with a four-goal effort. Roberts tallied goals in the 27th, 50th, 77th and 88th minutes.  
  • Tallying four goals on five shots on goal, Roberts earned his third Big South Attacking Player of the Week honor of 2017 with his fourth multi-goal match.  
  • Despite offensive struggles in the winless streak, Radford moved into eighth in the country with the five-goal effort, increasing the season total to 30.
  • Averaging 2.31 goals per match, Radford's mark is eighth best in the nation, while ranking 11th with a 6.62 points per game mark.
  • The Highlander offense is averaging 14.85 shots per game and 6.54 shots on goal, ranking inside the Top 30 nationally in both categories.
  • Using the help of his four-goal match, Roberts moves back into the nation's lead with 15 goals and a 1.15 goals per game clip.
  • In addition, Roberts leads the country with 5.31 shots per game and 2.92 shots on goal per contest.
  • After having his eight-match scoring streak snapped at Charlotte, Sivert Daehlie got back in the scoring column as he opened the Gardner-Webb win up with a goal in the fourth minute.
  • The goal was the 10th on the season for Daehlie, ranking eighth nationally.
  • His 28th career goal moves him into a three-way tie for seventh in program history.  
  • Radford is the only school in the country with two players inside the Top 10 in goals scored.
  • Roberts ranks second in the country with 30 total points and Daehlie follows in 10th with 23 points.
  • With 26 total assists, Radford is 14th in the country, while eight different players have assisted on a goal.
  • Evan Szklennik ranks 18th nationally with seven assists, while Neil Martorana ranks 48th with five assists.
  • Szkelnnik picked up his 22nd career assist on Saturday, moving into sole possession of fifth all-time.
  • Between the pipes, Nicolas Mertzokat has five matches with four-plus saves, giving him 42 on the season, which ranks 79th nationally.
  • Opposing teams have been held to 16 goals on the season, averaging 4.70 shots on goal per match.
 
SCOUTING NO. 10 VIRGINIA
  • Record: 9-1-3 (2-1-3 ACC)
  • Virginia enters the match with 25 wins in its last 26 home matches.
  • The Cavaliers are 7-0 in non-conference play this season and unbeaten in its last 15 regular season matches against non-conference opponents. The last non-conference loss at home was on Oct. 13, 2015 against American (1-0).
  • Virginia is one of six, one-loss teams in the country and its .808 win percentage is the ninth highest in the nation. Only Indiana, Maryland and FIU remain unbeaten.
  • Last time out, Virginia played NC State to a 0-0 draw on Oct. 13 for the Cavaliers third draw on the season. The shutout marked the fourth on the season for the Virginia defense.
  • The Cavaliers are outscoring opponents 26-13 and 17-7 in assists.
  • Of the 26 goals, 16 have come in the second half.
  • Edward Opoku leads the team with seven goals, while Sergi Nus follows with six scores. Following behind is Pablo Aguilar with five goals.
  • Three different Cavaliers have recorded three assists as Jean-Christophe Koffi, Opoku and Aguilar lead the team.
  • Between the pipes, Jeff Caldwell has recorded 34 saves, while compiling a 0.93 goals against average. With 21 career shutouts, Caldwell ranks fourth in program history.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford travels to Rock Hill, S.C., to take on Winthrop in a Saturday night battle. Action is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
  • The Eagles enter the contest with a 3-8-1 overall mark and a 1-3-0 clip in conference play.
  • In the all-time series, Radford holds a 33-26-12 edge.
