UNC ASHEVILLE STOPS IN FOR FINAL HOME MATCH OF 2017 SEASON

SERIES HISTORY
  • Radford and UNC Asheville have met 32 times in their series history, tying the Bulldogs with Liberty for the most times Radford has faced a single opponent in program history
  • The Highlanders hold a commanding 21-8-3 advantage in those 32 meetings
  • October 5th, 1986 marked the first time the two sides met, resulting in a 22-0 victory for Radford in the best offensive game in program history
  • The latest meeting between the Highlanders and Bulldogs came on September 28th, 2016 when a tightly contested match ended with a 2-1 win for Radford
 
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Eight of the 10 teams in the Big South will qualify for the Big South Tournament
  • Coming into Wednesday's match, Radford and UNC Asheville are tied for sixth on the Big South table with six points
  • The Bulldogs have a game in hand, however, so they have three more opportunities to add to their point total while the Highlanders only have two
 
HIGHLANDERS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 9-6-0 (2-5-0 BSC) | RPI: 204
  • Radford is 5-2-0 at home this season, proving the home field advantage that Cupp Stadium provides
  • With nine, the Highlanders have their most wins in a single season since going 15-3-2 in 2013
  • Although last Saturday was the official Senior Day for Radford women's soccer, Wednesday night will be the final home game in the career of seniors Gabby Brannon, Maddie Malueg, Katie McCormick, Cassidy Ratliff and McKensey Ziegler
  • The Highlanders are coming off a 2-0 victory over Presbyterian, their first defensive shut out since blanking Chattanooga, 2-0, on August 25th
  • Junior midfielder Jasmine Casarez has 10 goals this season, the most in a Radford single-season since Ashley Johnson netted 12 in 2008
  • Casarez (10), Jessica Wollmann (6), Gabi Paupst (5) and Nelia Perez (4) all rank in the top-10 in the Big South for goals scored
  • Radford has scored 32 goals this season compared to only 19 in all of 2016
 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • Record: 6-8-1 (2-4-0 BSC) | RPI: 252
  • The Bulldogs have lost back-to-back games to Winthrop and Longwood by a combined score of 7-to-2
  • UNC Asheville is one of six teams in the Big South to have attempted more than 200 shots this season and are tied for third in points with 53
  • They are also the third-highest scoring offensive in the conference with 20 goals through 15 games
  • Defense is where problems begins to arise for the Bulldogs as they are second-to-last in the Big South in goals allowed with 29
  • Senior midfielder Courtney Naber leads the team in goals with six while senior forward Caroline Houser and freshman forward Skyler Chillson aren't far behind with four and three respectively
  • Freshman goalkeeper Bryson Lee has played all but three minutes of game time this season en route to 56 saves and a 1.88 goals allowed average
  • The Bulldogs are 2-1 in overtime games this season
 
UP NEXT
  • Following their final home game of the season against UNC Asheville, the Highlanders will hit the road one final time in the regular season to take on Charleston Southern
  • The game will take place on Saturday, October 21st with a start time slated for 1 p.m.
