RADFORD HOSTS LONGWOOD IN FINAL HOME REGULAR SEASON TILT



MATCH INFORMATION  
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford hosts Longwood in a rematch of the 2016 Big South Tournament Championship as the Highlanders close out the home portion of their regular season schedule.
  • The Highlanders tallied a goal in the 85th minute for a 1-0 victory. In the regular season meeting, Radford also collected another 1-0 victory.
  • The Highlanders lead the all-time series 15-8-3.
  • In the series, Radford has won the last five matchups with the last loss coming on Oct. 9, 2013 in a 1-0 decision inside Cupp Stadium.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 9-4-2 (4-1-1 Big South)
  • Radford followed its win over No. 10 Virginia with a 2-0 victory at Winthrop on Saturday.
  • In the win, Radford outshot Winthrop 28-8 for a season high and the second most by a Big South team this season.
  • Eight different Highlanders took a shot with all eight taking two-plus.
  • The Highlanders earned a season-high 10 corner kicks.    
  • Assisting on the game winner over Virginia, Victor Valls picked up his first career multi-goal match in the win. Valls tallied a goal in the first half and the second half.
  • Three of Valls' four career goals have come as game winners.
  • Responsible for the goal at Virginia, Sivert Daehlie repaid the favor to Valls, assisting on both of his goals.
  • Daehlie earned his second career Big South Attacking Player of the Week award for the game winning goal and multi-assist matches.
  • Radford collected two shutouts on the week, giving the Highlanders five on the season and Fraser Colmer was rewarded with his third career defensive player of the week honor.
  • Colmer now has been a part of 30 career shutouts in his four-year career.
  • In the win over Virgina, Colmer checked the Cavaliers top two scorers, holding them to only two shots. Against Winthrop, Colmer held Max Hasenstab without a shot.
  • Nicolas Mertzokat moved into a two-way tie for ninth all-time with his fifth career clean sheet.
  • Mertzokat now has 51 saves on the season, moving his save percentage to .761.
  • He now ranks fifth in the conference and 63rd nationally in saves.
  • Radford's defense is 56th nationally with a 1.023 goals against average. The Highlanders have limited opponents to 16 goals and only 70 shots on frame in 163 attempts.
  • Of the Highlanders' 33 goals, only six have come unassisted as they rank 13th in the country with 29 assists.  
  • Evan Szkelnnik leads the team with seven assists, ranking 22nd in the country.
  • Neil Martorana and Daehlie have five assists each.
  • Ranking seventh in the country with 33 goals scored, Kieran Roberts and Daehlie have combined for 26 of the goals.
  • Radford is the only school in the country with two players inside the Top 10 in goals scored.
  • Roberts trails the nation's lead in goal by one (15), but leads in goals per game (1.00), shots per game (5.13) and shots on goal per game (2.80). The redshirt junior also ranks fourth with 30 points and sixth with 2.00 points per game.
  • Daehlie ranks ninth nationally with 11 goals, while chipping in 27 points for seventh.
  • Averaging 2.20 goals per match, Radford's mark is ninth best in the nation, while ranking 11th with a 6.33 points per game mark.
  • The Highlander offense is averaging 15.20 shots per game and 6.40 shots on goal, ranking inside the Top 30 nationally in both categories.
 
SCOUTING LONGWOOD
  • Record: 1-13-1 (1-4-0 Big South)
  • Longwood picked up its first win on the season last time out, defeating UNC Asheville 2-1 for its first conference win as well.
  • Sammy Dupuy and Connor Rea tallied their second goals of the season in the win, which lead the team.
  • The Lancers have been shutout 10 times on the season, only score nine goals on 53 attempts on frame.
  • Seven of the goals have been assisted on.
  • Opponents have tallied 36 goals on 104 shots on goal, while averaging 16.7 shots per match.
  • The Lancers have allowed 12 goals in the first half and 21 in the second half.
  • Between the pipes, Lance Da Silva has appeared in 13 matches, yielding 23 goals and collecting 58 saves.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford concludes the regular season on Nov. 1 at Liberty in a match that could decide the Big South Regular Season championship.
  • The Highlanders picked up a 2-1 victory over Liberty in the 2016 meeting.
  • Radford owns a four-match winning streak in the all-time series with Liberty's last win coming on Oct. 30, 2012 in a 2-1 victory inside Cupp Stadium.  
  • The all-time series is locked at 24-24-12.
