COMMONWEALTH FOES MEET WEDNESDAY FOR TOURNAMENT SEEDING

SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford and Liberty meet in a Commonwealth battle Wednesday afternoon that has major Big South Tournament seeding implications.
  • With a victory, Radford secures the No. 2 seed and a quarterfinal bye in next week's conference tournament. The Highlanders would host winner of the No. 3/6 matchup in the semifinals on Nov. 8; which could be Campbell, Gardner-Webb or Presbyterian.
  • With a loss, Radford will be the No. 4 seed and will host either Gardner-Webb or Presbyterian in a quarterfinal match on Nov. 5.
  • With a win, Liberty will be the No. 2 seed and can claim a share of the regular season title with a High Point loss to Longwood.
  • The all-time series is locked at 24-24-12.
  • After collecting a 2-1 win in 2016, Radford owns a four-match winning streak in the all-time series with Liberty's last win coming on Oct. 30, 2012 in a 2-1 victory inside Cupp Stadium. 
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 9-4-3 (4-1-2 Big South)
  • Looking to earn a share of its fourth-straight Big South Regular Season Championship, Radford was unable to clinch a share with a 1-1 draw to Longwood on Oct. 25
  • In Radford's fourth overtime match of the season, the Highlanders outshot Longwood 19-6, but the Lancers held a slight 6-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Highlanders earned a season-high 12 corner kicks in the match.
  • Dondre' Robinson tallied his first collegiate goal in the draw, finding the back of the net in the 72nd minute off passes from Victor Valls and Sivert Daehlie.
  • Robinson became only the eighth different Highlander to tally a goal this season.
  • Longwood knotted the match in the 86th minute on a Highlander miscue on defense. The goal was only the eighth allowed in Big South play.
  • In overtime, Radford took five shots and held Longwood without a shot.
  • Radford defense ranks 62nd nationally with a 1.008 goals against average. The Highlanders have limited opponents to 17 goals and only 75 shots on frame in 169 attempts.
  • Offensively, Radford was held to only one goal for the sixth time on the season.
  • Radford's 34 goals rank 13th in the nation and its 2.13 goals per match clip is 10th best. The Highlander offense has 100 points, ranking 15th in the country.
  • Of the Highlanders' 34 goals, only six have come unassisted as they rank 14th in the country with 32 assists.
  • Assisting on four goals in the four last matches, Daehlie ranks 28th nationally and leads the Big South with seven assists. Evan Szklennik joins Daehlie with seven assists.
  • Responsible for 26 of Radford's 34 goals, Kieran Roberts and Daehlie has combined for more goals than 145 NCAA DI schools.
  • Radford is the only school in the country with two players inside the Top 15 in goals scored.
  • Roberts trails the nation's lead in goal by one (15) and ranks second in goals per game (0.94). The redshirt junior leads the country with 5.25 shots per game and 2.69 shots on goal per match. He also ranks fifth with 30 points and ninth with 1.88 points per game.  
  • Daehlie ranks 11th nationally with 11 goals, while chipping in 29 points for seventh.
  • The Highlander offense is averaging 15.44 shots per game and 6.25 shots on goal, ranking inside the Top 40 nationally in both categories.
 
SCOUTING LIBERTY
  • Record: 10-4-1 (5-2-0 Big South)
  • Liberty enters as the only Big South team with 10 wins on the season and holds a 7-3 record over the last 10 matches.
  • The Flames hold a 7-1-0 record at home this season.
  • Outscoring opponents 29-12, Liberty leads the Big South and ranks 19th nationally with a 0.783 goals against average.
  • The Flames also rank 23rd with 1.93 goals per match, while possessing a 0.85 clip in league play.
  • Taking 189 shots on the season, 95 have come on frame.
  • Ranking 145th in the nation with only 12.80 fouls committed per match, Liberty ranks eighth with three red cards.
  • Of the Flames' 29 goals, 12 different players have found the back of the net with eight totaling exactly one goal.
  • Tresor Mbuyu and Kevin Mendoza are responsible for 17 of the goals. Mbuyu ranks 26th overall with nine goals and Mendoza follows in 49th with eight.
  • Mbuyu has also assisted on five goals, giving him 23 points on the season.
  • Between the pipes, James Knoebel ranks 27th in the nation with a .810 goals against average. Knoebel has recorded 50 saves for a .806 save percentage.

  • Radford will await its 2017 Big South Tournament opponent to be announced on Wednesday following the league's contests.
  • Big South All-Conference honorees and postseason awards will be announced on Nov. 3.
