RADFORD & HIGH POINT MEET IN SATURDAY BIG SOUTH BATTLE



MATCH INFORMATION  
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford and High Point meet in a Homecoming battle of the Big South's preseason No. 1 vs. No. 2 in a Saturday afternoon affair.
  • The Highlanders are looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Panthers a season ago in which High Point tallied a goal 19 minutes into the match. Only being held to one shot in the first half, Radford tallied 11 shots in the second half.
  • The last time these two Big South foes faced one another inside Cupp Stadium, Sivert Daehlie scored a game winning goal in the 92nd minute for a 2-1 victory on Oct. 17, 2015.
  • Radford holds a 20-10-7 edge in the all-time series.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 6-2-2 (2-0-1)
  • Radford had its four-match winning streak snapped, but kept its seven-match unbeaten streak intact as the Highlanders earned a 1-1 draw at Presbyterian on Wednesday night in the third double overtime match between the two Big South foes in the last three matchups.
  • During the seven-match unbeaten streak, Radford has outscored opponents 17-6.
  • Scoring four-plus goals in the previous three matches, Radford was held to one goal for the third time on the season and its second 1-1 draw.
  • The Highlander offense has scored four-plus goals four different times on the season and currently rank sixth in the country with 24 goals scored.
  • Averaging 2.40 goals per match, Radford's mark is seventh best in the nation as well as its 7.00 points per game clip.
  • Radford's defense has been stout during the unbeaten stretch, ranking 48th nationally with a .957 goals against average.
  • Nicolas Mertzokat has recorded 27 saves, including four matches of four saves. Mertzokat's .730 save percentage ranks sixth in the Big South.
  • Earning his second Big South Attacking Player of the Week honor earlier in the week, Kieran Roberts was held without a goal for only the third time on the season in the draw.
  • Battling with NJIT's Mamadou Gulrassy for the nation's lead in goals, Roberts ranks second in the country with 11 goals and 1.10 goals per game, registering three multi-goal matches on the season.
  • In addition, Roberts leads the country with 5.50 shots per game and 3.00 shots on goal per contest. Tallying 22 points on the year, which ranks third nationally, Roberts's 2.20 points per game is third best.
  • Tallying the lone goal in the draw, Sivert Daehlie has now scored in seven straight matches, totaling eight on the season. Daehlie now ranks sixth nation in goals scored, eighth in points per game (1.80) and 10th in total points (19).
  • With 26 career goals, Daehlie is one goal away from a two-way tie of ninth in program history.
  • With 22 total assists, Radford is 12th in the country, while eight different players have assisted on a goal.
  • Seven different players have tallied two-plus assists on the season.
 
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
  • Record: 3-4-3 (1-1-0)
  • Through 10 matches, High Point has only tallied 10 goals, ranking seventh in the Big South.
  • The Panthers have scored only one goal in the first half, while finding the back of the net nine times in the second half.
  • High Point has played in five overtime matches this season, including four double overtimes. The Panthers battled Duke to a 3-2 overtime loss on Sept. 1 and No. 4 Wake Forest to a 1-0 double overtime loss on Sept. 19.
  • Of the 10 goals, seven different players have scored as Bana Ganidekam and Justen Shear lead the team with two goals each.
  • Ranking 58th in the country with a 1.011 goals against average, opponents have scored 11 goals.
  • Between the pipes, Keegan Meyer has registered 27 saves in nine matches, allowing 10 goals in the nine matches played.
  • High Point is averaging 10.0 shots per match, taking 37 attempts on frame on 100 shot attempts through 10 matches.
  • In Big South play, High Point opened with a 3-0 win at UNC Asheville, before dropping a 1-0 loss to Campbell on Wednesday.
 
UP NEXT
  • After playing four straight Big South matches, Radford steps out of conference play for its second to last non-conference match, traveling to Charlotte for a 2015 NCAA Tournament rematch on Oct. 10.
  • The 49ers took a 2-1 victory in match on Nov. 19, 2015, tallying a goal in the 84th minute for the win.
  • In the all-time series, Radford is 1-5-3 against Charlotte.
