COLMER NAMED COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN FOR THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR

AUSTIN, Texas – Radford senior defender Fraser Colmer becomes the second player in Radford Athletics' history to be named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America ® first team in consecutive years as announced by the organization Thursday afternoon. The honor is the third consecutive for Colmer as the Southampton, England native collected second team honors in 2015.

Colmer becomes the first player in program history to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team in consecutive years, while joining former men's outdoor track & field student-athlete Goran Nava (2003, 2004) as the only two Highlanders to achieve the feat.

A three-time Big South all-academic honoree, two-time Big South Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and 2016-17 Big South Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Colmer boasts a 3.99 GPA as a business management major in Radford University's renowned College of Business and Economics. Colmer was once again the only Big South player to be honored on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams.

"The men's soccer program has consistently been successful in the classroom and on the field. Fraser is again very deserving of this prestigious academic award," said Senior Associate Athletics Director Stephanie Ballein. "His ability to balance academics and athletics, while serving as a peer mentor to our student-athletes is a true testament of his work ethic."

In addition to his academics, Colmer finished his career one of the best defenders to play in the Big South Conference. He helped anchor Radford's defense to 32 shutouts over four years, while graduating with 0.85 goals against average as a member of the Highlander backline in 77 career matches.

On the offensive side, Colmer contributed five goals and 22 assists in his career, ranking tied for fifth in program history. During his career, Radford captured three straight Big South Regular Season Championships, one Big South Tournament Championship and made two NCAA Tournament appearances.

"Fraser has played a massive part of this program's success over the course of his four years. He has embodied everything a student-athlete should be, while exceling on-and-off the field," said head coach Bryheem Hancock. "It is a great award for Fraser because not only does it prove that he has helped get this program to where it is today, but has exceled in the classroom and will receive an outstanding degree from Radford as a part of it. We thank Fraser for everything that he has done for this program, he has set the Radford men's soccer standards and he has a very bright future ahead of him."

Colmer's honor was the seventh CoSIDA Academic All-America® award for the men's soccer program, which are the most by any team at Radford.
