RADFORD FACES ETSU IN FINAL ROAD GAME OF 2017



RADFORD, Va. – As the long and winding regular season comes to a close, Radford travels to Johnson City, Tenn., on Tuesday to face ETSU in the Highlanders final non-conference road matchup of the season. The contest is a makeup of a March 14 postponement.
 
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Series: ETSU leads (24-19)
  • Location: Thomas Stadium (Johnson City, Tenn.)
  • Radford took the first matchup 4-3 on March 28.
  • Senior Danny Hrbek drove in all four Radford runs, including a walk-off two-run triple in the bottom of the ninth.
  • Radford's last win on the road in the all-time series came April 1, 2013 in a 4-2 decision.

  • Over the weekend, Kyle Zurak lowered his ERA to 2.17 after collecting his sixth save and striking out six over three frames. Zurak has 47 punch outs in 37.1 innings.
  • In non-conference games, Evan Threehouse holds a 3.14 ERA in 10 appearances, striking out 16 in 14.1 pitched.

  • The Buccaneers snapped its five-game losing streak with a 10-9 10-inning comeback victory. Hagen Owenby provided a two-run home run in the ninth for his 200th career hit to take the series salvaging win.
  • Christian Bailey continues to lead the team in average (.366), hits (70) and RBIs (41).
  • Owenby is not far behind with 60 hits, 40 runs, 38 RBIs and nine home runs.
  • Chris Cook leads the team with 49 runs scored, while ranking with 68 hits.
  • Caleb Longley, Blake Rowlett and Cook follow Owenby's nine home runs with eight of their own.
  • Possessing a .303 average that ranks second in the SoCon and 24th nationally, ETSU has totaled 498 hits, which ranks inside the Top 30 in the country.
  • Six different Buccaneers have a .300-plus average, while four have totaled 60 or more hits.

  • Aaron Maher continues to cause issues at the top of the Bucs' order, ranking 19th in the nation with 52 runs score. Maher has swiped 12 bases in 13 attempts.
  • ETSU's pitching staff holds a 5.55 ERA, which ranks seventh in the league as opposing teams are hitting .291 off the Bucs.
 
ON DECK
  • Radford hosts Wake Forest in its final non-conference matchup on Wednesday to start a seven-game homestand to conclude the season.
  • The Demon Deacons collected an 18-7 win on March 5.
  • Wake Forest leads the all-time series 7-2.
