RADFORD AND DAVIDSON SET FOR SUNDAY MATINEE



MATCH INFORMATION  
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Located just 141 miles from one another, Radford and Davidson have had quite the battles in the all-time matchup dating back to 1990.
  • Davidson leads the series with a 7-3-2 record.
  • The Highlanders have yet to win a game on the road in the series, possessing a 0-3-1 record.
  • Radford took a 2-0 victory in the 2016 edition.
  • Before meeting this season, the last road matchup occurred on Sept. 16, 2009 with the Wildcats taking a 2-0 victory.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 1-1-0
  • The Highlanders had a strong opening weekend, taking a 4-0 win over Wofford and giving No. 5 Clemson a scare in a 2-1 loss.
  • Radford redshirt junior Kieran Roberts and senior captain Fraser Colmer highlighted the Big South's weekly men's soccer awards on Monday. Roberts was named Big South Attacking Player of the Week for the second time in his career, while Colmer earned his second Big South Defensive Player of the Week honor.
  • Opening the season with a bang was Roberts as the Bournemouth, England native tallied two goals in the win over Wofford and the lone goal at Clemson. Taking 14 shots on the week, eight came on goal for Roberts.
  • The two goals at Wofford, marked the second career multi-goal match for Roberts.
  • Colmer led the Radford defense to concede only two goals in 180 minutes played with one coming as a penalty kick. Radford's defense held Wofford to only five shots and Clemson to six on goal.
  • In addition, Colmer assisted on the first goal of the season with a corner kick to the head of Sivert Daehlie in the ninth minute of the Wofford contest.
  • The Daehlie goal was the 19th of his career, needing only three goals to move into a two-way tie for 10th all-time.
  • Also, providing a goal in the win over Wofford was Jakob Strandsäter.
  • Of Radford's five goals scored on the season, four have been assisted on.
  • Nicolas Mertzokat picked up his first career shutout and win against Wofford. In the two matches, Mertzokat has totaled five saves, facing 18 shots.
 
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
  • Record: 1-0-0
  • Davidson will continue its stretch of five straight against Big South Conference foes to open season.
  • Following the matchup with the Highlanders; Davidson will take on UNC Asheville, Winthrop and High Point.
  • The Wildcats earned a 2-1 decision over Presbyterian on opening weekend.
  • Matt Reinikka and Aidan Peterson were responsible for the Wildcat goals.
  • Tied 1-1 at halftime, Peterson headed in a cross from the far side for the game winning goal in the 58th minute.
  • Davidson held a 10-7 shot advantage and a 6-4 shot on goal clip.
  • Sam Bissett tallied three saves in the win.
  • In the contest, seven Wildcats saw action off the bench.  
 
UP NEXT
  • The Highlanders return to action on Sept. 9, traveling to Coastal Carolina for a rematch of the NCAA Tournament contest a season ago.
  • The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
  • The Chanticleers lead the all-time series 24-21-8, going 2-0-0 in two matchups in 2016.
  • Radford's last win in Conway, S.C., came in a 2-1 decision on Oct. 4, 2005.
