HIGHLANDERS TRAVEL TO CAMPBELL SATURDAY FOR BIG SOUTH OPENER

SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford opens up Big South play on the road for the third straight season, compiling 8-1-1 in the last 10 conference openers.
  • The Highlanders have not lost a conference opener since a 3-0 loss at Liberty in 2007.
  • In the all-time series against Campbell, Radford holds a 15-14-3 edge in the series dating back to 1984.
  • Since the Fighting Camels rejoined the Big South in 2011, Radford is 6-0-1 in the meetings.
  • The last time the Highlanders opened the conference slate against the Fighting Camels came on Sept. 22, 2012 in a 2-1 win inside Cupp Stadium.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 4-2-1
  • Radford is currently on a four-match unbeaten streak, going 3-0-1 over the span.
  • With only two more midweek non-conference matches on the slate, Radford will begin the road for its fourth straight regular season title.
  • The Highlanders are coming off a wild match in their final non-conference home match with a 4-3 victory over in-state foe James Madison on Wednesday. Of the seven goals scored, six came on two separate three-minute spans in the first and second halves.
  • Radford opened the match with goals in the 10th, 11th and 14th minutes. James Madison tallied goals in the 62nd and 65th, while the Highlanders added one in the 64th.
  • Collecting his second multi-goal match of 2017 was Kieran Roberts, who now leads the Big South and ranks third in the country with seven goals.
  • Averaging one goal per match, Roberts' average is second best in the land.
  • Roberts also ranks third in the country with 2.86 shots on goal per game and fourth with 5.43 shots per game.
  • Notching 14 points through seven matches, Roberts is seventh nationally.
  • Not far behind Roberts, Sivert Daehlie tallied his fifth goal in the win over JMU, ranking 19th in the country.
  • The goal is the 23rd of his career, giving him sole possession of 10th all-time in program history.
  • Daehlie collected his third assist of the season, increasing his points total to 13, which is 12th nationally.
  • Now with 52 career points, Daehlie is tied for 10th in that category.
  • Scoring the opening goal in the win, Michael Walsh becomes just the fourth different Highlander to score a goal in 2017.
  • Radford saw assists on all four goals in the win as Victor Valls led the way with two.
  • The Highlanders have scored 14 goals on the season and 12 have been assisted on.
  • Averaging 2.00 goals per match, Radford ranks 23rd in the nation.
  • Taking 99 shot attempts through the first seven matches, 41 have come on frame for an average of 5.86 per match.
  • Defensively, the Highlanders had an uncharacteristic outing against James Madison, allowing a season-high in shots (13) and goals (3).
  • Radford now ranks third in the league with a 1.11 goals against average.
 
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
  • Record: 4-3-1
  • Campbell enters the match with a two-game losing streak, dropping matches to William & Mary and UNC Greensboro. The Fighting Camels were shutout in both contests.
  • The Fighting Camels are 0-1-1 against teams from Virginia.
  • Holding a 2-1-0 record at home, Campbell has not won a home match since Sept. 9, coming in a 3-0 victory over Howard.
  • Through eight matches, Campbell has only scored eight goals, while being outshot 102-87.
  • In the shots on goal category, opponents hold a 37-30 edge over the Fighting Camels.
  • The Campbell defense has yielded only seven goals, ranking second in the Big South with a 0.83 goals against average.
  • Five different players have scored a goal on the season, but JJ Donnelly leads the squad with four goals. Donnelly has taken 24 shots, 12 coming on frame.
  • Donnelly collected a hat trick in the win over Howard, only the second Big South player to do so in 2017.
  • Of the eight goals scored, several have come via two assists as the Fighting Camels have tallied 12 assists.
  • Between the pipes, Matthew Mozynski has played all 755:00 minutes, collecting 30 saves for third in the league.
  • Campbell ranks 10th nationally with 19 yellow cards.

  • Radford will receive a week off, not returning to action until Sept. 30, hosting UNC Asheville for the Big South home opener.
