RADFORD HOSTS ASHEVILLE SATURDAY IN BIG SOUTH HOME OPENER



MATCH INFORMATION  
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford enters the Big South home opener with fresh legs having not played since its 5-1 victory over Campbell a Saturday ago, while UNC Asheville suffered a 3-0 loss to N.C. State on Tuesday.
  • The last time the Highlanders hosted the Bulldogs in their Big South home opener came exactly two years ago in a 5-1 victory on Sept. 30, 2015
  • The Highlanders have won five straight conference home openers with the last loss coming to UNC Asheville in a 1-0 overtime loss on Oct. 1, 2011.
  • In the last meeting, Radford collected a 3-0 win on Nov. 2, 2016 over the Bulldogs to capture the outright Big South Regular Season Championship.
  • The Highlanders hold a 34-11-4 edge in the all-time series.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 5-2-1
  • Radford is currently on a five-match unbeaten streak, going 4-0-1 over the span.
  • During the span, Radford has outscored opponents 12-5.
  • Last time out, Radford scored five unanswered goals in a 5-1 win over Campbell to open conference play.
  • In the win, all five of the goals were assisted on. The five assists were a match high.
  • Radford has assisted on its last nine goals scored. The Highlanders have totaled 17 assists.
  • Neil Martorana and Jakob Strandsäter finished with two assists each in the win. The multi-assist match is the first of Martorana's career and the third of Strandsäter's career.
  • The two assists gave Strandsäter 13 in his career, needing only two more assists to move into a six-way tie for ninth in program history.
  • After falling behind five minutes into the match, Radford's five unanswered goals came off the boots of Kieran Roberts, Fraser Colmer, Myles Yorke, Sivert Daehlie and Strandsäter.
  • Coming up to load the box off Strandsäter kicks, Yorke tallied his first career goal and Colmer notched his fifth career goal.
  • The last time Radford scored five goals came in a 5-0 win over Gardner-Webb on Oct. 23, 2015.
  • Radford took a season-high 22 shots with eight coming on frame. The Highlanders earned a season-high nine corner kicks, taking six in the second half.
  • Roberts has scored four goals in the last three matches, giving him a team-high eight goals, which ranks second in the country.
  • The redshirt junior leads the country with 1.00 goal per game and 5.75 shots per game.
  • In addition, Roberts ranks third with 2.75 shots on goal and fifth with 16 points.
  • Not far behind Roberts, Daehlie is now 10th in the country with six goals, scoring in five straight matches.
  • With 19 goals scored by six different Highlanders, Radford ranks sixth in the nation in goals scored. To go along with those 19 goals, the 17 assists give the Highlanders 54 points, which is eighth in the country.
  • The five goals on Saturday bumped Radford up to the seventh best offense in the nation with 2.38 goals per match.
  • Taking 121 shot attempts through the first eight matches, 49 have come on frame for an average of 6.13 per match.
 
SCOUTING UNC ASHEVILLE
  • Record: 1-8-0
  • The Bulldogs are on a two-match skid after picking up their first win of the season with a 2-0 over Wofford. UNC Asheville started the season with six straight losses.
  • UNC Asheville has been outscored 22-5 through nine matches. The Bulldogs have two matches of two goals.
  • Five different Bulldogs have scored a goal on the season.
  • Of the five goals, three have been assisted on.
  • UNC Asheville has taken 89 shot attempts with 38 on frame.
  • Only taking 38 shots in the first half, UNC Asheville's offense has tallied 51 in the second half.
  • The Bulldogs are averaging 9.9 shots per game.
  • Between the pipes, Tyler Moore has appeared in eight matches, yielding 19 goals. Moore has collected 35 saves for a .648 percentage.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford will hit the road again as the begin October play at Presbyterian on the fourth for a 6 p.m., matchup.
  • A season ago, the two foes met twice in the season, both coming as overtime affairs. The first matchup on Oct. 8, 2016 saw a Roberts goal in overtime give Radford a 1-0 victory. In the Big South Tournament semifinals, Radford and Presbyterian went into penalty kicks locked at 1-1. The Highlanders advanced 4-2 on PKs.
