WOMEN'S SOCCER BEGINS ROAD TRIP AT MOUNT ST. MARY'S

SETTING THE STAGE
  • The Radford women's soccer team is 5-0-0, without a loss or even a tie, to start a season for the first time since 1993 when the Highlanders began the season with 10 straight wins before finishing 15-3-2 and reaching the NCAA Tournament
  • This match marks the beginning of a three-game road trip for the Highlanders covering Mount St. Mary's, VMI and Saint Francis (Pa.)
  • The three games of the road trip are also Radford's final three non-conference contest before the Big South slate begins with Winthrop on Saturday, Sept. 23rd
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 5-0-0 (0-0-0 Big South)
  • Radford's offense has been firing on all cylinders and they now sit tied for fourth in the nation for goals scored per games at 3.60
  • That offensive production has been a direct result of strong teamwork in the final third. The Highlanders rank ninth in the nation with 17 assists on 18 goals
  • Radford is one of only 14 teams in the nation that are undefeated without even a tie this season
  • The Highlanders will enter the weekend leading the Big South in wins (5), points (53), goals (18) and assists (17)
 
SCOUTING THE MOUNT
  • Record: 3-3-0 (0-0-0 NEC)
  • Mount St. Mary's is coming off of back-to-back shutout losses with a 7-0 defeat to Rutgers and a 2-0 defeat to Temple so they will be looking to right the ship vs. Radford
  • The Mount has also shown a lot of passing prowess this season, recording nine assists on 11 goals
  • Junior forward Jenna West leads the Mount with four goals and two assists for 10 points this season
  • Freshman defender Maria Buonomo and sophomore midfielder Jaylyn Chandler own a game-winning goal each
  • Head Coach Joe Nemzer is now in his second season at the helm at Mount St. Mary's. He led his team to 1-7 regular season record in his debut season
 
UP NEXT
  • Following their match in Maryland, the Highlanders will make their way back to Virginia to take on VMI on Friday, Sept. 15 in Lexington
  • The Keydets are 2-4 heading into the weekend. They will take on Manhattan and Mount St. Mary's on Friday and Sunday respectively
