FORMER BIG SOUTH FOES MEET IN NCAA TOURNAMENT REMATCH



MATCH INFORMATION  
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Not expecting to play its first home game till Sept. 16, Radford received news Thursday evening that the home opener would be played Saturday as Hurricane Irma forced Coastal Carolina to evacuate Conway, S.C.
  • The match was scheduled to be played at Coastal Carolina Soccer Stadium on Saturday night at 7 p.m., in a rematch of the 2016 NCAA Tournament contest.
  • The two former Big South foes will now meet inside Cupp Stadium for the second straight regular season match.
  • Coastal Carolina captured a pair of 2-1 wins on Sept. 24 and Nov. 17, 2016.
  • In the all-time series, Radford trails 21-24-8 to Coastal Carolina.
  • Radford will be going for its first win over the Chanticleers since Nov. 1, 2014.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 1-2-0
  • Radford dropped a 1-0 decision to Davidson on Sunday, marking the first time the Highlanders had been shutout since Oct. 22, 2016 at High Point.
  • The Highlanders took a season-high 17 shots in the loss, finishing with double-digit shots in the first three matches of the season.
  • Once again, Kieran Roberts led the team in shot attempts with four, two coming on goal.
  • Fraser Colmer and Sivert Daehlie contributed three shots each.
  • Held without a goal for the first time in 2017, Roberts is tied for second in the league with three goals. The redshirt junior leads the Big South with 18 shots.
  • Radford has taken 44 shots on the year, averaging 14.7 per contest.
  • Opponents have taken 26 shots, 12 have been on frame.
  • Of Radford's five goals on the season, four have been assisted on.
  • Daehlie leads all Highlanders with two assists.
  • In 2016, Radford only allowed five goals nine home matches.

SCOUTING COASTAL CAROLINA
  • Record: 2-2-0
  • The Chanticleers dropped the first two matches of the season with a 2-1 loss at George Mason and a 3-0 loss to Georgetown.
  • Coastal Carolina has bounced back with a win over UNC Greensboro (2-0) and comeback victory over No. 16 Charlotte on Tuesday. The Chanticleers trailed 1-0 through the first 70 minutes, but tallied three goals in 16-minute span against the 49ers.
  • As a team, Coastal Carolina has attempted 52 shots with 20 on frame. Opponents have taken 46 with 23 on goal.
  • The Chanticleers average 13.0 shots per match.
  • Six different players are responsible for goals for the Chanticleers.
  • Mac Hermann Trophy watch list member Frantzdy Pierrot has taken a team-high 10 shots with three goal. Pierrot has one goal to his name.
  • In goal, Braulio Linares-Ortiz has made 15 stops, but has allowed seven goals.
  • The second half has been the strongest for the Chanticleers, taking 30 shots and earning 19 corners.
  • Coastal Carolina has been called offsides 11 times on the season compared to the opponents total of two.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford travels to ETSU on Sept. 13 for a 7 p.m., in a matchup of border foes.
  • The all-time series is locked at 3-3-2.
  • In the last matchup, Radford and ETSU battled to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 5, 2015 inside Cupp Stadium.
