CAMPBELL AWAITS RADFORD AT GORE ARENA SUNDAY

GAME INFORMATION
  • Opponent: Campbell Camels
  • Date/Time: Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m.
  • Location: Gore Arena | Buies Creek, N.C.
  • Live Stats
  • Live Video (Big South Network)
  • Listen (Super Sports 101.7 FM)

SETTING THE STAGE
  • Heading into Sunday, the Highlanders will no doubt be thinking about last season when Campbell won all three meetings between the Big South foes
  • Radford has defied all expectations this season and sit alone atop the Big South standings at 6-1 following wins over Liberty and Longwood in the last week
  • After starting 0-2 in conference play, the Camels have won four of their last five games to get right back in the thick of things

SERIES HISTORY
  • Radford leads the all-time series with Campbell, 21-17, but are just 4-7 since the Camels returned to the Big South in 2011-12
  • The two programs first met during the 1984-85 season when Radford swept a three-game series
  • Campbell took all three games played against the Highlanders last season including a regular season game on ESPNU and the Big South Semifinals

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 13-7 (6-1 Big South) | RPI: 116
  • Radford has been on an absolute tear of late, winning eight of its last nine games
  • The Highlanders are only 4-7 on the road this season, but they've earned victories in two of three Big South road games this season: 78-62 at Presbyterian and 64-61 at CSU
  • Radford ranks third in the Big South for scoring defense at 66.3 points per game and is now 8-0 this season when holding opponents between 60-69 points
  • The Highlanders can send five different players onto the court that average at least seven points a game: Ed Polite Jr. (13.7), Carlik Jones (11.7), Donald Hicks (7.7), Caleb Tanner (7.2) and Randy Phillips (7.0)
  • Polite Jr. ranks in the Big South's top-5 for rebounds per game (8.0), steals (32) and blocked shots (22)
  • Thirty-three percent of Radford's rebounds this season have come on the offensive glass (238 out of 725)
  • Radford's depth shows in the fact that no Highlander ranks in the Big South's top-10 for minutes played per game
  • Radford Director of Basketball Operations Junard Hartley was a standout player at Campbell from 2007 to 2011. He ranks second on CU's all-time list for assists (600) and games started (115) while sitting third in steals (212) and minutes (3,536). He was even named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year in 2010

SCOUTING THE CAMELS
  • Record: 10-9 (4-3 Big South) | RPI: 316
  • Head Coach Kevin McGeehan is in his fifth year at Campbell. He led the Camels to their first postseason appearance since 1992, winning two games in the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament after reaching the Big South Championship game
  • The Big South preseason poll tabbed Campbell to finish fourth in the conference, but they did receive two first-place votes
  • Campbell has proven tough to beat at home this season, going 8-3 inside Gore Arena
  • Junior Chris Clemons in the engine that makes Campbell run. The dynamic guard was the nation's second-leading scorer in 2016-17, is the reigning Big South Player of the Year, and was selected as the 2017-18 Big South Preseason Player of the Year
  • Clemons is the conference's top scorer this season as well, averaging 24.3 points per game. He is one of only two players to attempt more than 100 free throws this season and he shoots a stunning 90.3-percent from the charity stripe
  • Campbell also boasts the league's sixth-best scorer in sophomore guard Marcus Burk (16.2 points per game)
  • In the Big South, the Camels rank second in scoring at 80.2 points per game, second in free throw percentage (.752), second in three-point percentage (.382) and first in field goal percentage (.492)
  • The Camels are outscoring opponents by 7.7 points per game on average

NEXT HOME GAME
  • Radford returns to the Dedmon Center on Saturday, Jan. 27 when the Charleston Southern Buccaneers come to town
  • The game, which is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip on Stadium Network, marks the first time this season the Highlanders will face an opponent for a second time
  • In their last meeting, Radford earned a narrow 64-61 victory in the Buc Dome behind 15 points from Carlik Jones and 13 points from Caleb Tanner
