SERIES HISTORY
The Highlanders' only game in program history against the Spartans came on Sept. 2, 2007. Radford earned a 2-1 double overtime victory at Cupp Stadium in that lone meeting.

LAST TIME OUT
Radford is coming off a 2-1 defeat to No. 12 High Point on Saturday night. The Highlanders struck first, scoring a 35th minute goal off the foot of freshman forward Amadou Macky Diop.

The Panthers charged back in the second half, scoring in the 61st minute and the 67th minute to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Freshman goalkeeper Sam Farrell made five saves to continue his strong season and Radford earned a 5-to-4 advantage in corner kicks.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
Radford has been rising up the Big South statistical rankings after a slow start to the season. As a team, the Highlanders now rank second in corner kicks taken per game (5.86) and third in points per game (4.14), goals per game (1.43), assists per game (1.29) and goals allowed (23).

Forwards Kieran Roberts and Amadou Macky Diop have been a force on offense this season and the duo ranks in the top-10 for several Big South statistical categories: shots, shots per game, points, points per game, goals, goals per game and game-winning goals. Freshman goalkeeper Sam Farrell has been a revelation since taking over the starting gig and now ranks second in save percentage (.774).

DIOP DOMINATION
Diop has been sensational in his debut season for Radford and Saturday was no different. With his 35th minute goal, the Dakar, Senegal native is now tied for the Big South lead in goals per game (0.66) and ranks second in the conference for goals (8) and points per game (1.59).

BIG SOUTH OUTLOOK
High Point (6-0-1) has locked up the regular season title and the top seed in the Big South Championships, but Radford (4-3) could still be as high as the No. 2 seed or as low as the No. 5 seed.

Presbyterian (5-2) currently sits in second, but will play HPU. Campbell (4-2-1) is right behind them and will play Longwood (2-4-1) while Gardner-Webb (3-4) could reach .500 with a win over winless UNC Asheville (0-7) on Wednesday.

The top two seeds will earn a first round bye so the Highlanders will need to take care of business against USC Upstate and get help from High Point and Longwood to jump higher in the standings.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
USC Upstate has held its own in its first season as a member of the Big South Conference, going 3-3-1 through seven matches. They've topped all expectations coming into the year after being picked to finish last out of nine teams in the Big South Preseason Poll.

The Spartans have struggled recently, however, losing three straight by a combined score of 7-1 to non-conference opponents South Carolina, Charlotte and Wofford. Their last win came on Saturday, Oct. 13 in a surprising 3-0 victory over Presbyterian.

Senior midfielder Cam Philpot has been the team's most dangerous player, scoring six goals and adding an assist for 13 points on the year. Junior forward Francis Eto leads the team with three assists and freshman goalkeeper Andrea Bonavia has played the bulk of minutes in goal, making 84 saves and recording one shutout.
