DAY ONE RECAP
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Sophomores Tenae Washington and La'Tisha Chambers combined with freshmen Amelia Reynolds and Alexis Stafford to run the second fastest 4x100-meter relay in school history, headlining a great day at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Saturday.
Running their first outdoor relay as a team in official competition, those four Highlanders placed second with a time of 47.34 seconds. The effort rockets them into Radford's record books and puts them just behind the school record of 47.01 seconds set by Brandon, Caple, Carter and Keener at the 2006 Big South Championships.
Reynolds and Chambers then shined in the 100-meter dash, taking first and second with times of 11.98 and 12.02 respectively. Reynold's time is the sixth-fastest in program history while Chambers moves up from 10th (12.15 seconds) to ninth in program history. Sophomore Kierra Henderson won her heat thanks to a personal record time of 12.43 seconds before setting another PR in the 200-meter dash as well.
Sophomore Anastasia Kramer followed her javelin performance yesterday with a sixth-place finish in the shot put on Saturday. The Stafford, Va. native set a personal record with a throw of 11.86 meters (38'11"), topping her previous best of 11.72 meters from the Big South Championships last May.
Picking up where she left off on the indoor high jump, sophomore Alexis Walton tied for second with VCU's Amiaya Carey after clearing 1.60 meters (5'3").
Radford deployed four runners in the 1,500-meter run with one earning a personal record. Senior Mariah Quintero ran her best ever 1500-meter, crossing the finish line in 5:10.15 to best the 5:19.18 she posted at the 2017 High Point VertKlasse Meeting.
Freshman Alaina Pagliaro gave Radford another top-5 finish on the day, taking fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. Then Washington placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with another powerful run.
After taking a year off, redshirt senior distance runner Courtney Burton opened the year with a third place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
To wrap up the day, Stafford, Washington, Foster and Pagliaro placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay.
