RADFORD TO PLAY FIRST MIDWEEK IN 20 DAYS; TRAVEL TO VMI TUESDAY



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Series: Radford leads (30-23-1)
  • Location: Gray-Minor Stadium (Lexington, Va.)
  • Radford is playing its first midweek game since March 7 as recent inclement weather has spoiled the last two midweek matchups.
  • The Keydets last played a midweek game on March 14.
  • The two Commonwealth foes spent the weekend in North Carolina's triad area as the Highlanders faced High Point and the Keydets took on UNC Greensboro.
  • Both teams dropped Friday's doubleheader and earned wins on Sunday.

  • After dropping the first two games of the series, Radford's bats caught fire in the series finale as the Highlanders scored 15 straight runs in a 18-6 thrashing of High Point led by a four-hit, five-RBI performance from sophomore Straton Podaras.
  • The 18 Highlander runs came on a day in which four Highlanders finished with multi-hit performances, including three with three-plus hits.
  • Radford's 15 hits are the most on the season after the Highlanders tallied only 13 hits in the first two games of the series.
  • The Highlanders have six double-digit hit games on the season.
  • Radford's seven extra base hits match a season high and the five doubles also match a season best.

  • On Sunday, Austin Ross became the first Highlander to earn a win as the starting pitcher. Making his first start of the season, Ross allowed only one run over five strong, improving to 5-2 on the season.
  • Ross is tied for the nation's lead in wins.
  • With 21.2 innings out of the bullpen, Austin Gerber leads the team with a 2.49 ERA with only seven of his 19 hits allowed coming as extra-base hits.

  • Two Keydets have drove in 20-plus runs as Peyton Maddox paces with 21 and Pita follows with 20.

ON DECK
  • Radford will have a quick turnaround as they return to action on Thursday, hosting Gardner-Webb for its second Big South home series. The series runs Thursday-Saturday due to Easter.
  • The Highlanders will be playing the Runnin' Bulldogs for the first time since the 2016 season. Radford took the series and also defeated Gardner-Webb in the Big South Tournament that same season.
  • Since 2012, Radford is 9-4 against the Runnin' Bulldogs as they also lead the series 14-9.
