RADFORD TRAVELS TO ETSU WEDNESDAY FOR FINAL APRIL MIDWEEK



SETTING THE STAGE

  • Location: Thomas Stadium (Johnson City, Tenn.)
  • Inclement weather in the Tri-Cities forced the game to be postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday.
  • ETSU won the first game of the series on April 4, breaking an 8-8 tie in the eighth for a 9-8 victory.
  • The Buccaneers scored the first seven runs of the game in the first three innings, before Radford answered with seven straight to knot the game.
  • Radford's last road win in the series came on April 23, 2014 in a 7-6 victory.

  • Radford collected its third straight Big South series win, outscoring Charleston Southern 16-10 over the weekend.
  • The Highlanders went 3-1 on the week, picking up their first home wins since March 18.
  • Radford totaled 40 hits in the four games, collecting 20 RBIs on 28 runs scored.
  • Matt Roth continues to hit as he finished the week 9 for 18 with three doubles and three runs scored, striking out only twice.
  • Increasing his hitting streak and on-base streak to 13 straight, Roth added four RBIs, giving him 17 of his team leading 28 RBIs over the span.  
  • During the stretch, Roth is 28 for 60 at the plate as he has raised his average to .318 from .230 over the stretch.
  • Averaging 5.8 runs per game, Radford is hitting .227 in RBI opportunities, picking up 28 hits in the situation over the last 10 games.

  • Roth follows Butler with 14 multi-hit games, seven of which have come in the last 10 games, stringing together a 10-game hitting streak.
  • Carlin Christian follows with an 18-game on-base streak, collecting a hit in six straight.

  • Redshirt senior southpaw Mack Krupp has held opposing lefties to a .154 clip with six hits in 39 at bats. Austin Ross holds a .230 average, limiting to 14 hits in 61 at bats.
  • Krupp leads the Radford bullpen with a 3.69 ERA, holding opposing bats to a .243 clip.
  • Having started five of the 10 games he's appeared in, Krupp commands a 1.54 ERA in 11.2 innings of relief.

  • ETSU has dropped six of its last eight games since taking a conference series against VMI (April 6-8).
  • The Tuesday contest will serve as the last home midweek for the Buccaneers as they have two home weekend series remaining.
  • Chris Cook continues to lead the Bucs offense with a .333 average with 48 hits and 22 RBIs. Cook has scored 28 runs and holds a .419 on-base percentage.
  • Serving as the power source in the lineup, Caleb Longley's .302 batting average has been aided by 38 hits with 14 coming as doubles and eight as home runs to lead the team.
  • Longley's 33 RBIs pace the Bucs, while Christian Bailey follows with 30 as the only two players with 30-plus RBIs.
  • In the lineup, four different players have tallied 30-plus hits and eight has collected double-digit RBIs.
  • ETSU ranks fifth in the conference with a 5.40 ERA, striking out 290 batters in 313.1 innings.
  • James Giambalvo has been strong out of the ETSU bullpen with a 3-2 clip and a 2.59 ERA, holding opposing bats to a .218 average in 24.1 innings.

  • Radford returns to Carter Memorial on Friday to host Presbyterian in its second to last Big South home weekend series. The 2017 Big South Championship game rematch will be featured on ESPN3 Friday night.
  • The Highlanders lead the all-time series 13-5, taking the last two matchups.
  • Presbyterian won the 2017 regular season series, before Radford handed the Blue Hose a 9-2 loss in the tournament championship game.
  • Radford will host Presbyterian for the first time since 2012, marking only the third the Highlanders have played host to the Blue Hose since 2009.
