ROBERTS SCORES TWICE IN 4-2 VICTORY AT LONGWOOD

BOX SCORE

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Radford men's soccer team earned a 4-2 victory over Longwood at the LWU Athletics Complex on Saturday night thanks to a quartet of second half goals.

The first half came and went without a score by either side, but the Highlanders looked strong and led in shots taken, 10-to-4. It wasn't until the second half that the game really opened up.

In the 49th minute, Dondre' Robinson charged up the left flank before cutting inside and playing a ball to Amadou Macky Diop who proceeded to spin around his defender and fire a left-footed strike into the back of the net.

Radford then doubled its lead in the 56th minute off the foot of Kieran Roberts. The Highlanders earned a corner kick which was played right to the back post by Gonzalo Rodriguez and Roberts was waiting in the perfect spot to tap it in.

Just as it was beginning to look like Radford had complete control and the Lancers may be falling too far behind, they pulled one back in the 67th minute. Then with the clock ticking closer and closer to the end of the match, the Lancers scored again in the 83rd minute to tie things up.

A mere 31 seconds later, the Highlanders struck to take back their lead for good. Diop fired a low strike that was saved, but Roberts made a great run and in one fluid motion picked up the rebound and bounced it home for a goal. An own goal with four minutes left then cemented the huge road win for Radford.

PLAY OF THE MATCH

STAT OF THE MATCH
Radford was unrelenting on the attack, putting 12 of its 23 shots take on frame. The Highlanders also took seven corner kicks, nearly matching Longwood's shot total of eight on the night.

LUCKY NUMBER FOUR
After struggling to get much going through the first five games of the season, Radford has scored four goals in back-to-back matches including a 4-1 victory at West Virginia. The eight goals in two matches has boosted the team's goal total on the year to nine.

FRESHMAN PHENOM
Amadou Macky Diop has been unstoppable in the Highlanders' last two matches. After going the first five games of the year without a point, he collected two goals plus one assist against West Virginia and one goal and an assist at Longwood. That gives him eight points off of three goals and two assists now.

QUOTABLE
"It was a good performance from guys that came into the game to help continue to create chances that eventually found the back of the net. We will enjoy this for tonight and get back to work for our Wednesday match versus Gardner-Webb." - Head Coach Bryheem Hancock

UP NEXT
The Highlanders now make their way to Boiling Springs, N.C. where Gardner-Webb awaits them for a midweek Big South contest on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.

The Runnin' Bulldogs have struggled so far this season and only stand at 1-6-1 heading into this weekend. The good news is that one win came in a Big South contest against USC Upstate so they are 1-1 in conference play.
