ABOUT THE MATCH-UP
In 13 all-time meetings, the Highlanders and Dukes are knotted up at 5-5-3. The series, which began in 1984, last saw these two programs meet in 2017 when JMU made its way to Cupp Stadium. In a high scoring affair, Radford came out on top 4-3 thanks to three goals in the first 15 minutes and a brace from Kieran Roberts.

LAST TIME OUT
Radford once again struggled to find its groove on offense in a 2-0 loss at Georgetown. The Hoyas held a 22-10 advantage in shots and rode a brace from Derek Dodson to victory. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Dimitrios Valkanos earned his first career start and rewarded Coach Hancock with four saves.

BIG SOUTH RANKINGS
Although the Highlanders are still searching for their first goal of 2018, they still hold some decent statistical rankings in the Big South. Out of nine teams, they rank tied for third in goals allowed (6), sixth in corner kicks per game (5.67) and seventh in shots per game (8.67).

SCOUTING THE DUKES
With a record of 1-2-1, the JMU men's soccer team is still searching for its identity under first-time head coach Paul Zazenski. Zazenski took over for Tom Foley in early August after the longtime JMU coach was named CAA Coach of the Year in 2017. The Dukes won the CAA regular season title in 2017 and were picked to finish third in the conference's preseason poll.

They're led by junior midfielder Maunel Ferriol who was named to the preseason All-CAA team as well as redshirt sophomore forward Carson Jeffris, junior midfielder Tim Estermann and redshirt senior midfielder Billy Metzler. Coming off of three straight overtime matches, it'll be interesting to see how much energy the Dukes bring to the pitch on Saturday.

HOME OPENER
The Highlanders will begin the season with five straight road matches before finally returning to Cupp Stadium. On Sept. 22, Radford will host Campbell at 7 pm. Admission is free for all spectators.
