Mount Pleasant, SC - The Radford women's golf team opened its spring season by advancing to the championship bracket after defeating No. 4 seeded Wofford, 3.5-1.5, Monday morning, at the Oyster Shuck Match Play, hosted by Citadel at the par-72, 6,393-yard Patriots Point Golf Club. The Highlanders, however, were edged by top-seeded James Madison, 3-2, later in the day. Radford will take on No. 2 seeded Appalachian State in the third-place match on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
 
"There were definitely a lot of positives to take from today," said Radford head coach Jeff Beeler. "This morning's match could have gone either way, but we showed incredible grit and toughness to edge out a very good Wofford team."
 
"This afternoon's match stings a little bit because we were so close to advancing past an outstanding JMU team to reach the championship match," he added.  "We'll take away the positives and learn from the negatives and be ready to bounce back tomorrow.  I've got a lot of faith in this team."
 
Freshman Beatriz Mosquera Quintas led the way for the No. 5 seeded Highlanders against Wofford, picking up a 6&5 win against Emma King at the No. 2 flight. At No. 4, Sidney Walker (Half-W) won with a birdie on the 19^th-hole against Becca Earl and No. 5 Natalie Welsh recorded a 1UP triumph against Kristine Torralba. No. 1 Riko Nagai halved against Grace Massengill and No. 3 Kasidy Beckel was defeated by Lina Settelmayer by a Half-W count.
 
Against JMU, Mosquera Quintas defeated Katie Turk by a 7&6 margin and Walker bested Kate Owens, 3&2, at the No. 1 and No. 2 flights respectively.  The Dukes took close battles at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 to escape with the win.  Lauren Comegys defeated Natalie Welsh by a 2UP count, Carly Lyvers bested Riko Nagai 6&5 and Jordan McKelvin edged Kasidy Beckel 2&1.
