KAYLA THOMAS NAMED BIG SOUTH DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Leading the team with four points in the early season, sophomore defender Kayla Thomas has been named Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

The Rolleston, New Zealand native was part of the back line that has not given up a goal in 180 minutes this season. She and the Highlander defense have only allowed 24 shots this season, with only 11 landing on frame.

The sophomore was also a big part in both of Radford's wins last weekend. Thomas had an assist in each contest and scored a goal in the 2-0 win over Mount St. Mary's on Sunday. Thomas has only taken three shots all season and has tallied four points.

It's Thomas' second career Big South Defensive Player of the Week honor and first for Radford since Oct. 24, 2018 when Courtenay Kaplan won the award.

The Highlanders will be back in action with a pair of consecutive home matches on Thursday and Sunday. The first will feature Elon on Thursday at 7 p.m., and the second will see East Carolina Sunday at 2 p.m.
