Rosters Set, Game Information for 2020 Red-White World Series Announced

RADFORD, Va. – Radford head baseball coach Karl Kuhn has unveiled the rosters and format for the Highlanders' 2020 Red-White World Series, with the first game scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Williams Field at Carter Memorial Stadium.

Two-time Big South All-Academic Team member and 2020 Buster Posey Award Watch List honoree Straton Podaras highlights the Red Team roster. Podaras led all of Division I with 14 runners caught stealing, throwing out more than 60 percent of attempted base-stealers, while hitting .283 with six doubles and 11 RBI's. Podaras is joined on the Red Team by Tanner Barrs, who hit .323 while playing multiple positions around the diamoind. Infielder David Bryant and outfielder Garrett Matheny highlight the returning starters on the Red Team.

Relief ace Bruce Hudson leads the White Team and is coming off a season where he led the Big South with four saves and earned a spot on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List. Will Harless and Austin Kaplan, the two leading returners in homers for the Highlanders with two apiece, also feature on the White Team, along with 2020's starting corner outfielders, Sean Cheely and Anthony Galati, the latter of whom hit .313 with a .431 on-base percentage.

The Red-White World Series also marks the first fall ball season for Radford's 18 newcomers. The first-ever recruiting class under head coach Karl Kuhn was ranked as a top-100 class nationally and features a pair of top-500 prospects in pitcher Gene McGough and infielder/pitcher Jordan Peyton, who will both be on the White Team. McGough is the highest-ranked freshman among any Big South schools.

Kuhn enters for his second season as the head coach of the Highlanders after leading the team to a 9-8 record in 2020 prior to the cancellation of the remainder of the season due to COVID-19. Radford had a 5-1 record at home and improved in nearly every statistical category under Kuhn compared to the start of the 2019 season.

Kuhn is joined by assistant coaches Matt Rein, Josh Reavis and Josh Merrigan, all of whom were part of the 2020 staff. Rein and Reavis are both entering their fourth season on the Highlander staff, while Merrigan begins his second season.

The complete rosters for both teams, along with the Red-White World Series schedule and event information can be found at the bottom of the story. All games will be played behind closed doors and are not open to the public.
