BEALL, JENKINS AND HUTCHENS CLAIM SPOTS ON BIG SOUTH ALL-DECADE TEAM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Three Highlanders were honored with spots on the 2010-19 Big South Conference Softball All-Decade Team, presented by Hercules Tires. The selections were announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Nichole Beall, Jackie Jenkins and Jessie Hutchens are Radford's three representatives on the 2010-19 All-Decade team.

Beall (2009-12), Radford's first NFCA All-American (3rd Team), was the program's first player to earn four first-team all-conference, three first-team all-region and two Big South Player of the Year honors. After four years as a Highlander, Beall is remembered in the Radford record book, holding an astonishing seven career records. Along with being Radford's career home run leader, she left her mark as the Big South's second player to reach the 50-home run milestone.

Jenkins (2010-13), was a two-time Big South Pitcher of the Year during her four year stint and later became an assistant coach under head coach Maggie White. With a career 2.77 ERA, Jenkins ranked in the career top five in ERA, saves and shutouts and finished top ten in five other categories.

Hutchens (2011-14), capped off a dominant career by being selected to NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second team and First Team All-Big South. As an upperclassman, she posted several team bests and matched the previous program record of 18 home runs in 2014. Hutchens finished 4th in career home runs (33) and 10th in RBIs (118).

The league's All-Decade Teams were first unveiled as part of the Big South's 30th Anniversary celebration in 2013-2014 to recognize the student-athletes and coaches who excelled in their respective sport in each decade since the Conference's founding in 1983. The three Highlanders join Suzie Rath, Ashley Taylor, Ashley Smith, and Kristen Shifflett for All-Decade Team honors. Rath was selected to the 1990's squad, while Taylor, Smith, and Shifflett were named to the 2000's team.

Softball All-Decade Team candidates were determined based on being at least one of the following: 1) Was a multiple All-Conference honoree; 2) Was named an All-American; 3) Is a member of the Big South Conference Hall of Fame; 4) Student-athletes must be a college graduate or in good academic standing with their respective institution; 5) Won a Conference Championship as a coach and/or was voted Conference Coach of the Year.

A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total. The 2010-19 Softball All-Decade team features five pitchers, five outfielders, six infielders, one catcher, two utility players, two designated players and one head coach. In case of ties, additional honorees have been added.
