RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team fell in a heartbreaker Thursday night in the semifinals of the Big South Championship to top-seeded Campbell.
In the first half, the Highlanders played up to the level spectators have seen from them all season. The defense impressively dispelled multiple Campbell attacks and held on to allow for a 1-0 Highlander lead minutes before the half. Maevyn Jones provided the goal for Radford and Kat Parris assisted the impressive shot. Campbell scored minutes later though, making it a 1-1 game headed into halftime.
In the second half Campbell broke through for four straight goals to take a commanding lead and advance to the Big South Championship.
KEY STATS
"I thought we played well in the first half and scored a nice goal. We defended with a lot of passion and grit in the first half as well. Credit to Campbell in the second half. They kept coming at us and wore us down. I want to thank the leadership and competitiveness this senior class has demonstrated over their years at Radford. They have accomplished so much here and I wish them nothing but the best going forward." -Head Coach Ben Sohrabi.
