Radford Unveils 2021 Baseball Schedule

RADFORD, Va. – Radford head baseball coach Karl Kuhn announced the Highlanders' 2021 baseball schedule Monday afternoon. The schedule features 29 home games at Williams Field at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium.

"In this time of uncertainty with the pandemic, we are excited to begin our season at home on our new field while putting together a competitive non-conference and conference schedule," Kuhn said. "We're also looking forward to having our players' families and friends out at the ballpark this season as permitted."

As part of the Big South's scheduling format for 2021, the Highlanders will play 40 Big South games this season, rather than the traditional 27. Radford has six games against USC Upstate, High Point and Presbyterian (home-and-home series), five games against Gardner-Webb and Longwood (home-and-home midweek, one three-game series (both away)), and three games against UNC Asheville, Winthrop, Campbell and Charleston Southern (AVL away; WU, CAM and CSU home).

The Highlanders will play at home on Opening Weekend for just the third time in program history, and first since 1993, when they welcome Ohio for a three-game series beginning February 19. The three-game series will also mark the earliest home game in program history.

Radford then heads to nearby Virginia Tech for its first road game of the season, a February 23 midweek game, before welcoming Bucknell for a three-game series at home to close out the month of February. The Highlanders hit the road for a midweek game at Liberty on March 2 before beginning Big South play March 5 with a three-game series at USC Upstate.

From there, the Highlanders play host to ETSU on March 9 before a stretch of 11 consecutive Big South games to close the month. Radford travels to High Point for a three-game series starting March 12, before a stretch of six straight home games. The Highlanders have a three-game series against Presbyterian (March 19-20) sandwiched in between midweek home conference games against Gardner-Webb (March 16) and Longwood (March 23). Radford closes the month with a three-game series at UNC Asheville March 26-27.

The Highlanders begin April by welcoming USC Upstate for a three-game series (April 1-2) before hosting VMI for a midweek game on April 6. Radford then has four straight road games, with a three-game series at Presbyterian (April 9-10) and a midweek trip to ETSU on April 13. The Highlanders then have back-to-back home series against Winthrop (April 16-17) and High Point (April 23-24), with a midweek trip to Longwood sandwiched in between. Radford then heads to Longwood for a three-game series with the Lancers (April 30-May 1).

Radford closes the season with seven of its last 11 games at home, starting with a three-game series against preseason conference favorite Campbell (May 7-8). The Highlanders head to Gardner-Webb for a midweek game on May 11 before playing host to Charleston Southern for a three-game series (May 14-15) and welcoming Liberty for a midweek game on May 18 to close the home slate. Radford closes its regular season with a three-game series at Gardner-Webb (May 20-21).

The Big South Championship will once again return to SEGRA Stadium in Fayetteville, N.C., with the top four teams competing from May 27-29 for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Attendance at all home games will be restricted due to COVID-19. In accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia, local health officials and university guidelines regarding in-person gatherings, only family members of Radford student-athletes and coaches will be permitted to attend, and will be required to be on a pass list submitted in advance of each game.
