Hot Start Not Enough Against Campbell

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (4-10) started strong and led at the half against Campbell (6-6), but 10 unanswered goals by the Camels sealed the Highlanders' fate Wednesday afternoon.

At the start of the game it was all Highlanders as they burst out to a 5-0 lead. The freshman Ava Goeller scored her first of four goals in the game to open up the scoring. Four minutes later, Goeller scored again making it a 2-0 lead. Jennifer Shield and Ashlyn Grogan teamed up for the third-straight Radford goal with 20 minutes left in the first half.

Following up the big run were the Gleason sisters who teamed up again for the 4-0 lead, with Grace Gleason scoring the goal and Margaret Gleason assisting her. The 5-0 run finally came to a close with Goeller's third goal of the day assisted once again by M. Gleason.

Campbell finally broke open their own scoring with two goals before the half ended. The Highlander defense did a great job of keeping the Camels at bay holding them scoreless for the first 27 minutes. Maddie Bowman recorded nine saves while in the net for Radford as well in the first half.

From there, though, it was all Camels as they scored 8 more goals to take a comfortable lead. Radford would make one last push as the match came to an end, as Goeller scored her fourth goal and Shield scored her second while a man up assisted by Lindsey Carroll.

The Highlanders actually outshot the Camels 34-28 in the game, with 23 of those 34 shots coming on goal. Campbell also only completed 20 of their 30 clear attempts, as the Highlander defense forced 20 turnovers. Many different Highlanders caused turnovers, but Katie Bendrick led the team with two.
