Highlanders Power Past Seahawks in 67-60 Winning Decision

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball program picked up its second-straight win Sunday afternoon with a decisive 67-60 victory over UNCW. Ashlyn Traylor picked up her second-straight double-double while Rachel LaLonde led the offense with 13 points of her own.

For the second game in a row, the Highlanders would use a hot streak early in the game to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way. Jackie Christ got the scoring started while LaLonde came up big with an early and-one that she converted to make it a 5-0 lead. The Seahawks inched closer after breaking the ice on their scoring with a 6-2 run, but that run was halted by a pair of free throws by Traylor and another and-one this time by Vanessa Blake.

Leading 14-10, Traylor and Blake continued to supply points for the offense as Traylor made another two free throws and then assisted a smooth Blake layup in the paint. The Highlanders had a 20-14 edge going into the second quarter and after a scoreless two minutes Olivia Wagner ignited the offense with a three-pointer to make it 23-14.

The second quarter would stay quiet until just before the two-minute mark where Tatiana Beaumont had the second three-pointer of the day for the Highlanders. Beaumont wasn't done as she sunk another three-pointer with four seconds left in the half to make the lead 34-23 at the break.

In the second half, Radford continued to roll right along. A Traylor layup got the scoring started while LaLonde, Carmen Williams and Christ would all team up for a 6-2 swing by Radford to balloon the lead to its largest of the day 42-27. Two minutes later, LaLonde converted another three-point play the hard way with an and-one that grew the lead even further to 47-31.

Despite another cold shooting stretch, Radford stood strong with a 51-38 lead heading into the final quarter. The Seahawks came out firing, going on a 4-0 swing to tighten up the game a bit more. Williams had the big answer, as she drained her first three of the game to pull the lead back to 54-42. Wagner also supplied another big three-pointer that had Radford up big with just five minutes to go.

Some baseline pressure by the Seahawks forced some Highlander errors as the clock ticked down, but Radford's lead was just too big to surmount. After one last layup by LaLonde to pull ahead by nine with a minute to go, Radford sealed the 67-60 victory and evened the historical series between these two programs to four-all.

NEAR-PERFECT AT THE CHARITY STRIPE
Today the Highlanders cleaned up their free throw shooting in a big way. Radford came into the game shooting 62% from the charity stripe but today the team was just shy of perfect. The Highlanders shot 16-17 (94%), with just the lone miss on the day. Traylor went six-for-six from the line while Williams, Wagner and Trinity Klock all went a clean two-for-two from the line.

WAGNER HEATS UP
It was a career-day for the freshman Wagner as she hit a new best for points with 10. Wagner's two three-pointers were crucial in pacing the offense while she also still found time to dish out another three assists, the fourth time the newcomer has totaled three or more assists in a game this season.

UP NEXT
The Highlanders are back at home for the third of four straight home games this week. On Wednesday, November 30th, Radford closes out the month with an education day game against College of Charleston with tip set for 11 a.m. on ESPN+.
