CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that Maci Rhoades has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week, the third weekly award for the Highlanders this season and first of the season for Rhoades.
The Beavercreek, Ohio native had a breakout week for the Highlanders who won dominantly at Queens and came up just short in overtime against Furman. Rhoades set a career-high in points with eight against Queens and then one-upped that total with 11 points against Furman on Sunday. In that game against Furman, Rhoades fired a team-high three three-pointers with one coming in the closing minutes of the game that helped fuel a comeback and force overtime.
Radford as a team has collected three player of the week honors this season, more than the last two seasons combined. The three freshmen of the week honors are already the most the program has earned in a single season since Janayla White and Claudia Quevedo combined for four freshman weekly awards in the 2014-15 season.
Rhoades and the Highlanders are currently preparing for their final nonconference game against Clemson set for this Tuesday, December 20th at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
