BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford track & field program wrapped up regular-season competition for the indoor season at the Virginia Tech Challenge Friday and Saturday as a final tune-up for the Big South Conference Championship Meet. The Highlanders performed well once again with six new personal records and three changes to the school record book.
The changes to the school record book included
MegAnne Gilmore's record setting performance in the 1,000m. Her time of 2:59.32 is the first in Radford history under three minutes with records recorded since 2010. In the same event,
MacKenzie Gardner ran 3:02.55 for the third-best time in school history.
The other shift in the record book came as
Kayland Bond notched a nearly four-second PR in the mile with a time of 5:12.73, good for 10
th best in school history. Also running the mile was
Savannah Hoff and
Abby Seigel who both set personal records in the race. Hoff's time of 5:18.08 took over eight seconds off of her previous best.
In the 400m,
Julia Burkley was able to take down her personal best on Friday with her run of 1:00.57.
Also getting in on the fast times were
Maddie Wright and
Denisha Hoosier who set season bests in the 60H and 60-meter dash with times of 9.34 and 7.86, respectively.

"This was a perfect meet for us in the leadup to the Big South Championship Meet this week," said Director of Track & Field
Shelli Sayers. "Everyone was right at, or set a PR this weekend and we took a huge step forward before we leave [for Greensboro, N.C.] on Wednesday."

The Highlanders will head to the Big South Championship Meet at the JDL Fast Track, Feb. 24-25 in Greensboro, N.C.
