Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Close Game Slips Away Late at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford Women's Basketball program fell to High Point, 64-49, Monday night. Radford came out of the gates with a strong defensive effort, but the close game slipped away late as High Point used a commanding fourth quarter to pull away.

Rachel LaLonde set the defensive tone early as she came down with a monster block on High Point's very first possession. The Highlanders were then able to open the game with four-straight points from LaLonde and Carmen Williams to take a 4-0 lead. Five straight points from the Panthers gave the lead back to the opposition, a lead they would hold until deep into the second quarter.

Destinee Marshall played a huge part in the first quarter offense, dropping a team-best seven points. Going into the second quarter down 16-14, Radford was able to tie things up as Ashley Tudor kicked off her big night with a layup to tie it at 16-all. Radford's pesky defense continued to battle and keep the game close until the team briefly took back the lead with 1:13 left in the quarter. High Point went on a five-point run to end the quarter, though, and take a 31-27 lead into the break.

In the first half Radford was able to hold High Point to just 1-of-14 (7%) shooting from three-point range. The Highlanders also struggled from three, however, hitting just one shot from deep in the first 20 minutes. The defense was key in keeping the game close, but High Point was able to find their three-point shooting in the second half to eventually pull away.

In the third quarter High Point created some more space by outscoring Radford by six in the quarter despite Marshall and Tudor continuing their strong offensive output. The fourth quarter didn't go the Highlanders' way either allowing the Panthers to fully pull away and eventually win 64-49.

Inside the box score, both LaLonde and Tudor both came close to double-doubles. LaLonde finished the night with eight points and a season-high 13 rebounds. Tudor ended up just one rebound away from a double-double as she ended the night with a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds. The Panthers played disciplined ball all night, as they have done throughout the season, committing 11 less turnovers and nine less fouls.

NEXT UP
It's a quick turnaround for the Highlanders who will be back in action and back on the home court at 7 p.m. Wednesday night against the same High Point Panthers.
