NINETY SIX, S.C. – Sophomore Bryce Corbett stepped up with the spotlight on him, shooting 5-under par and sitting in a tie for second through two rounds of the 2022 Big South Championships. 
 
The Highlanders are in eighth as a team, but are nine strokes back of the fourth-place spot that will allow the Radford men's golf team to advance to match play.
 
Corbett carded five birdies and just one bogey to tie for first after the first round of action at the Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor on Thursday. The Gainesville, Va. native then added six more birdies to his tally in a 1-under par second round. He's just two strokes behind the leader in the clubhouse – Campbell's Henrik Lilja.
 
Ryan Neil posted a +4 in the first round, but improved on that with an even 72 in the second round. He came close to staying under par thanks to two birdies and zero bogies through the final 16 holes of the round, but the final two holes set him back a bit. Nevertheless, the senior jumped 12 spots on the individual leaderboard and is in good position heading into Friday.
 
Fellow senior Tyler Hull brought consistency to the course, shooting a 3-over 75 in both rounds to tie for 29^th. He sunk a quartet of birdies on the day.
 
Nicholas Taliaferro rounded out the scoring with a 75 in the first round and a 78 in the second round. He carded four birdies of his own and is in a tie for 38^th in the 51-golfer field.
 
Reigning Big South Golfer of the Week Patrick Gareiss didn't quite have the same stroke as he did last week and is tied for 45^th at +14. He did make eagle on the par-five 5^th hole in the first round, giving him four eagles in his last five rounds.
 
Radford will need to make a big push on Friday. At +11 as a team, the Highlanders are nine strokes behind Winthrop (+2) while High Point (+5), USC Upstate (+7), and Presbyterian (+10) are between them. Only the top four teams will move on to Saturday's match play in a showdown for the conference title.
