Women's Soccer Earns Sixth Big South Regular Season Championship

RADFORD, VA. - After the completion of the Big South schedule Wednesday afternoon, Radford remained atop the conference standings and has earned the sixth regular season championship in program history. Radford was idle on the final day of conference play, finishing with a 6-1-1 record, good for 19 points which was one point ahead of second-place USC Upstate.

The regular season championship is the first for the women's soccer program since the 2018 team finished in first with a 9-1 conference record. Radford, already leading the Big South in tournament championships, is now tied for the most regular season championships in Big South history with Liberty and High Point who each have six. The regular season title is the sixth for head coach Ben Sohrabi, owning all six regular season titles for the Highlanders.

"We started this conference season with the goal of first making the conference tournament," commented Sohrabi. "Our second goal was to be the #1 seed. Over eight games I'm very proud of this group and how they stuck with the plan but adjusted to changes when necessary. There's a lot of parity in this league and we have tremendous respect for the other teams so we value this accomplishment. Our ultimate goal is to win the conference tournament and go to the NCAA Tournament, but for today we are extremely happy about our regular season championship."

The Big South Tournament is set to begin in about a week as Radford will kick things off with the first semifinal match at 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 2nd. The first-seeded Radford will face the fourth-seeded Charleston Southern. Should the Highlanders advance, the conference championship is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 5th.
